Ti2 15" Sub coil is black in color?

Post by pcguy76 »

I just got some Ti2 15 subs and noticed the coil is black on both of them. Usually this means burnt but when I hooked them up they worked just fine. Had me baffled so I am wondering if PG has some sort of black coating over the coils?? Anyone knows??

My 10's have a copper color.

May be it's the enamel coating color. Just like the wire in transformers come in different colors.

I will say that brand new Ti2 subs have some sort of glue, epoxy, or something that literally burns off after a couple weeks. Not sure if it's on the coil or not though. It does smell like burning coil when it is burning off though. Probably unrelated though......

I finally managed to get a decent pic of the coil lol. Pic is attached to this post so let me know what you guys think...

I am thinking its some sort of coating cos the sub plays just perfectly fine :) Just curious cos I never seen a sub with a coil intentionally colored black lol.

It definitely looks like a coating on there.
I'm trying to look at my elite12. But they put a nice screen around the basket. So I can't see the coil. But trying to see inside it looks black as well.

If you can't smell a burnt smell when you stick your nose up to those vents, then that is just a black varnish on the coil, not cooked varnish.

My Ti215d4 has the same black voice coil. "High Temperature CCAW Voice Coils" as noted in PDF manual. CCAW is Copper-clad aluminium wire. Black color help to increase heat dissipation by infrared radiation.
