Meet the twins (warning, non PG content)

Backstory: I bought the PPI PC2350 off eBay over a year ago as a parts only item. It had been modified poorly with extra resistors and a switch, so I replaced the resistors to factory ones and removed the switch. It powered up just fine so I didn't further investigate. I sold it to a friend.

The friend never picked it up because he's still planning his install. During the time that's it's been sitting I confirmed that the amp was used by team Gates in their bronco to break the world SPL record.

After finding this out I decided to keep the amp and I bought my friend a PPI 21400.2 (same amp, just newer model number). I started replacing the PS caps and it came out that the 2350 power supply is damaged so I'm rebuilding it.

Anyways...onto the pics...

Once the amps are done Dereck is power testing for me and he 21400 is going to my friends supercharged G8GT and the 2350 is getting taken apart, the heat sink is getting repainted to new condition, and I'm displaying it on my wall (johns98ta style).

Btw, here's a few of the caps off the 2350... Used up much?

Since the caps are upside down in the heat sink they don't leak onto the board, but they still can leak...here's the 21400 as I bought it (before the recap)

Got it, thanks Ricky.

So in the first post I mentioned a crappy mod job...it looked like after the amp left the hands of team gates someone else tried to further mod it. They added resistors without even removing the board, and they ran crappy speaker wire to a switch that they attached to the side of the amp. Here's some pictures that I took when the amp first came to me...these were the reason the amp wasn't working...

I had a PPI engineer confirm the origins of this amp. I've seen pictures of subs signed, but only one amp signed.

It's also possible that someone removed he signature off this amp, or maybe it was replaced at some point along the way and not removed when all of the rest were. Either way, it's been confirmed that this was an amp from her bronco.

So on the pc21400 the rail caps were bulging. I've never had to replace the snap type caps before but I hear that it's difficult to do. It is different than the other type, but for me it wasn't difficult at all.

All of the new caps (power supply and rail)

And I replaced the thermal compound with some of the expensive stuff...

And all done, ready to be power tested..

The 2350 still is waiting on me rebuilding the power supply.
