Phoenix Gold Phorum

hello name my ia jake and im new to the form, but I had some questions. so the other day I picked up and new Phoenix Gold RSd 10 sub for a steal of 50$ in a ported box went to hook it up but then after about an hour of play its overheated the amp and I cant figure out why it keeps doing it, so I think its just time for a upgrade amp, anyone one else have the same sub and what kind of amp are you running? thanks

need more info -what amp setting on the deck and amp
does the amp have a bass boost if so turn it down or off.

sorry kind of a rookie, the deck doesn't have any kind of amp settings and I have the bass boost off at the amp

Was the amp working fine before you hooked up the new speaker? Where do you have the amp mounted?

yep everything was working just fine, I have it mounted to a back of seat in the trunk

on the deck if the bass setting is higher than 0 is what I was asking
now is there a way to try someone else sub? maybe the sub is dvc and the amp can't handle it or the sub is damaged

just pulled the sub out of the box and its a dvc so would that make the amp over heat because the last sub was a svc?

i'm guessing you give an amp that is just 4ohm brigded stable a 2 ohm brigded load....

please connect the sub again and now one coil to the left and the other coil to the right channel so you

give the amp a 2x 4 ohm load.............this should play fine, ohterwise there is definitly something wrong....

so your talking about wiring it like this? and it should work fine? and are there if so any down sides of wiring it like this?

no downsides. thats what the different options are for. although unlike the picture, your sub is a duel 4ohm. so it can be wired to either 2(which is what it sounds like it is right now) or 8ohms

an amp will make less power at a higher ohm load. but it wont overheat now ether.


if it isnt getting as loud as you want after that. you may look into moving your existing amp over to door speakers. and getting a mono amp that is 2ohm stable
