Zero point vs ti

Post by knightrider358 »

Anyone know why i have ti amps that say two different things on the boards?

Ie: my ti600.2 says pg titanium series on the board

And my ti400.2 & ti500.4 says, phoenix gold zero point power amplifier.

Can anyone tell me if this is normal or is there something special w certain ones

I think the zero point were earlier ones. When I worked on the ZXti amps they said zero point on the boards. It's just marketing as far as I know.

So then the "zeropoint" was after the zxti but before the ti

Zero point was zxti and maybe zx(not 100% sure on this). Same board in early titanium. Mid run board change and newer boards say titanium.

They did on the model number on the outside like the zx475ti. Same amp said titanium 500.4. The board inside said zeropoint or titanium. The change happened I assume when they ran out of back stock zeropoint boards and printed the new ones with titanium. Early 500.4 boards say zeropoint latter 500.4 boards say titanium.

My 500.4 has different caps than my reactor zx amp that I changed. My zxti amps were changed before I got them. I think the titanium amps don't need to be changed but I'm going to change mine anyway for bigger ones to have more storage in the input section. I don't think the bigger rail caps have ever had a problem. So you can change them if you want but I don't think you need to. More research may be needed.

Ok great art thanks, btw i did notice they do seem a lil small, there seems to be space to upgrade to large ones, what does more storage on the input section do?

If the caps are HF or HFZ series then change them. I want to say that they used nichicon caps in the titanium series where the ZXti had the bad Panasonic HFZ caps. I could be wrong but the electronics soldered to the board were probably done after the change over to titanium, even if the boards themselves still said zero point, so I'll bet you are fine.

I've always thought ZXti amps are a bit cheesy for having ZeroPoint printed on their boards. I don't know of any ZeroPoint -kungfu incorporated in these amps and they sure can't handle no zero point anything ohm loads like ZPA:s. Hence their name.

What I mean is ZXti:s are great amps in their own right, just like ZX:s are. But they have nothing to do with ZPA:s. The only similarity is the fan cooling and case design.

Well they do use the same fan (granted only 1 of them), same heat sinks, and....same input caps...lol if you want to nitpick they also have a window that displays internals of the amp as well. I agree that they are not related in any way to the ZPA.

I think zeropoint was just what they called their higher end amps until it got replaced with the titanium series. The ZXti series started when the ZPAs went out of production.
