New head unit

I'm looking for a new head unit that connects to a smart phone (preferably wireless). Also the steering wheel has radio controls, so would still like to be able to use that if possible. The current factory head unit is a double din. Any ideas?

More than likely you will need an adapter for the wheel controls (cost around 50-125 bucks depending on your vehicle). That way you can keep any chime warnings (such as an open door, or headlights on after engine is off).

Ok thanks will need that then.
Is there a brand that sticks out more then others these days? It's only going to be pushing factory speakers, but still would rather pay a little more for a good brand (unless it's Sony

)

Not really, I have a kenwood double din touch screen and am pretty happy with it (its an older model too). Now a days they are all pretty decent and almost the same build quality, as long as you don't go with pyle or pyramid HU's...lol.
Alpine make some double din touch screen but those are a bit more expensive depending on model (around a grand).

I always liked alpine, but count me out if it's close to $1k. Might just head online to crutchfield, best buy or something similar and filter the results to my likings and see what comes up.

Does your stock stereo not have a dealer option for a smart phone interface?
I'd look at that first if you aren't adding speakers or amplification.

Not that I've seen. It's a bday present for the mrs. She's been wanting a "fancy" one for a while now.

Does she want navigation? DVD playback? Those seem to be price variable features.

Navigation isn't needed. I thought DVD playback would be good for the little ones.

If that's a decent unit, it may be ideal for the Mrs. The lack of a brand name worries me, but nowadays pretty much everything's made in China anyway.
