MPS 2220?

Post by NOT 2 OLD YET »

How well do you think this amp will do pushing a 8in Kicker shallow mount sub at 2 ohm load? I am not a Bass head I just am looking for a bit more out of the stock system. 2015 F-250 with Premium Sony with Nav. Thanks Fellas!

You'll get a good 140 watts @2 ohms mono, so if that's enough power then it will do good.

this is parallel-tuned, aperiodic-coupled bass reflex. It can play from quite low and to quite high. Good for pop, disco music. It really punches from the back...lol

Renovatio how could i learn to build a box like that. Did u use a box building software to mock it up or what? I like using a single 12" but would love to build a box like this and see how it perfoms

I've never seen anyone in car audio use an enclosure like that either. I will be doing some more research on that for sure. Very interesting and looks awesome!

The bandpass that Toby Guynn designed for his subs where pretty awesome as well. The only thing I don't like is the size of the enclosures, pretty big.

I got to meet the guy himself about 10 years ago, he recently retired but left the company name to a young man...Taylor. Toby use to run his shop near down town fort worth. Great guy and very reasonable, if he want busy he gave out demos and helped people out.

The construction of the box above is very good indeed, but I am pretty confident the design is not useful at all. But, I am not seeing the membrane location, so that would change a lot of things.

To break it down, the big empty volume on the right is just wasted space, as it would basically be additional port length. So as it is, it is a ported box with two different length ports, which will combine for a single resonant frequency.

So, in other words, you could build that box in half the space and get the same performance.

The sub box engineering is really something that i don't know good. So i use PWK designs. He never let me down (could be faster with sending blueprints). I ordered till now 2 box blueprints and the results were very satisfying. Well the best thing to ensure if box will be performing the same with only one chamber is to build a box with one chamber. but i am sure that it will not perform the same :) for comparing, i called my neighbor ant played some song loud, and he said it's 12 inch sub in a good enclosure, when i opened a trunk he was shocked and first words was " WTF how???" other " i want this too" :o

This is how it looks in my car trunk with this box (this is my first install in the car, rather embarrassing).

While I agree, it is always fun to use a smaller sub and get more performance out of it (thus shocking a lot of people who see it), there is a point where it no longer makes any sense.

In your case I am confident you can get the exact same performance from a box half the size, which would allow you to install a second identical sub in the same space you currently have, and with the same power this will get you theoretically twice the output.

When you gain twice the output, you only need to play it half as high to get the same output as before, and this gains you the added benefit of far less distortion.

I couldnt agree more eric d. As ive been more involved in audio the past couple years i have been wanting better quality than quantity

That is a cool looking design for sure.,if I were using that design I would have made the top piece plexi to show off the design and made it a centerpiece of the install.

I'm sure it sounds good, and if the size doesn't bother you but the sound is what you want then more power to you. It's not our place to tell you that this design is wrong. One thing, however, is that you call it aperiodic, but I don't see the membrane. Is the name just a fancy name for dual port length box? I mean I've seen it many times where people give something a fancy name including "technologies" in the title to make it sound more scientific.

It would be the best to have a discussion with Steve Milton or Pete Kulicki, they have more wisdom about that part of audio system than i :)
