Here is my question
Im going to use a jl hd1200/1
Im going to use 2 rsdc10d2 subs
Now I want to make a shallow style box I have about 9 inches deep. If I did ported what size should I make it
I listen to old school rap so if ported I need it tuned around 30-35hz. Or should I just do a 20l sealed box
Lmk

wait wait wait..... Mike is installing some gear? WOOOO HOOOOOO it will be hard for us to recommend either a port size with out knowing the box size.

Need to know both
I have 40 inch across and 15 inches deep and 9 high
If someone can let me know what is best with.the power on hand and what I listen to
Please lmk

This will sound bad but, i would every bit of that. That would be roughly 1.5cuft per sub w/o the port. Prob about 1.25-1cuft after sub and port (32hz). To me that would ideal. My single 12" is on 1.8cuft at 32hz and its so loud, tight and clear!

ok but does anyone know the port size and length with my needs?
I have a bass cube I plan to use also

I have no problem with a sealed box but I need it to be able to do some nice lows

Mike find out what pg specs are for the preferred port volume and then build ur port to that volume

Or find out what volume 32hz and build ur port off those the math for that. U may or may not know, if u build ur box use round over bits w a router on the ports to reduce port noise

I can't find info on the ported size with a tuning number or a spec sheet
That is why im asking

I seen this post From Tom
Ok I finally got BassBox semi-working again, but it's not 100% compatible with Vista 64 so there are a few things I can't work out, like vent velocity
Here's a comparison of the 10 in the .5 SQ sealed box, vs the 10 in the .9 SQ ported box. The orange is sealed, and the red is ported. I have simulated in-car cabin gain with a 12dB/oct rise at 50Hz (the upper of the two response lines).
You can see when we account for cabin gain, the sealed RSDC is designed to play FLAT! Note the big response hump on the ported design... your system would be much louder at around 30Hz than other frequencies. 6dB more than the sealed setup around that frequency.
The ported box is tuned for 27Hz. If we want to apply the same tuning to a 2" port to reduce the chance of chuffing, we would increase the box size to 1cuft, with a port length of 11.5". Their frequency response would be pretty much identical. I can calculate slot ported enclosures as well, if you would prefer to build that.
The boxes seem crazy small, but the RSDC is a crazy woofer! BassBox actually agrees with their recommendations... its box wizard comes up with nearly the exact same thing!

did anyone build this box and try it. it looks like ported will only be a couple db loud in the 30-50hz range. now I have to consider is it worth the space and time to build... I have more than the power needed and a bass cube to help either box
thoughts guys?

after thinking about it and the time and space used to not really get a lot of gain im going to do a .60 sealed per sub

That's what I have and it sounds great. You will NOT be disappointed!

I would go sealed. IMO if you want some more lows out of it after its built then break out the bass cube.

To me its always been best practice to do seperate chambers

the only real advantage to it is if you blow one the other can keep playing. If I am not mistaken I thought there was a slight gain in output if they shared an enclosure but for the life of me I can't remember why. Correct me if I am wrong I guess. Now if the box is an odd shape where it will be hard to get the same enclosure for each sub then don't worry about it.

Running a common chamber with both subs will slightly lower the resonance of the box, making each sub perform as if they were in a slightly bigger box. I rarely if ever build isolated chambers. On boxes with many subs I have subdivided them with chambers, like a sealed box I built for 6 8's & built the box with 2 chambers, 3 subs per chamber.
I think sealed would be your best bet given the space constraints. The excursion these subs are capable of really need a large diameter port to breathe noise free, & a large port with small volume enclosure equates to a very long port which wont really work within your available space.

than that is it I will build a sealed box one for both drivers

so im going to make the box out side 11.5 deep 7.5 high and 41.5 long
so inside should be 10 x 6 x 40 = 1.38 minus speaker displacement should be 1.2
now I know the subs are 5.8 tall and with the box being made of .75 mdf I will have just over a inch clearance from the sub and the bottom of the box
do I mount the subs closer to the middle or even it out so it equal distance for the side and the subs and spacing the subs or does it really matter?
I need to make this box shallow so I can fit everything and not take up space in the back of my suv
lmk guys
