old school sub questions

Im now going a smaller set in power
I have 250 watt rms 4ohm or 370 @2ohm

My question is I like the sound of old school sub vs a lot of the new sub
maybe it my mind play trick on me but I ran a first gen jl 12w0v1-4ohm off a m25 and it was crazy loud in my gti

I also ran 2 first gen kicker round c12 off a first gen alpine v12 mrvt500 and it was hard to breath in the car

So I think I would like to find a classic older style sub
it will be installed in my suv so I would like a 12 or 15"

here is one of many I see on ebay as a idea
Rockford Fosgate PCH-154
there a first gen kicker 15

thoughts what would rock off the power I have on hand

I have a pair of kicker 12c Stillwater designs like the ones on eBay for 250 plus shipping. I could be convinced to sell these or one of them for your build. I'm sure we could work out a fair price. ( Everyone I've dealt with on this forum has been great to me so far so I would like to give back if I could.
By the way these are in like new condition. I can send pics if you're interested. I just set one into a box to have a listen last night but haven't hooked it up yet.

interested what is the power rating and how large of a box needed

side note that is the only thing about old school is the box sizes

optimal air space for those kickers is 1cf per sub sealed, i ran several sets of those on a punch 40 dsm back in the day......so what you have should be plenty for them! on the same token i had 4 in my 86 trans am running on a hcca 250r and they absolutely loved it!!!!!

i have a hardon for the pair of petras cardiacs on ebay right now nib.
those would work great for what your wanting too........
same guy has 3 regular petras 12's nib too that would be nice as well.

as far as the kickers go they are great subs, one of my favorite subs of all time, i have a single 8ohm 10 on the shelf right now.....i would love to have a pair of 12's again....wishing i didnt sell the pair i had a year or so ago.....i would put them in my burb!

is it me or did they sound better? yes subs now can take 9million watts ect and use a very small box but to me they don't sound as good full etc.

they were more efficient and yes i think they sounded better than the newer subs, and you could always hear a pronounced difference between the different manufacturers, nowadays its like they are all made by the same factory with very subtle sound differences between them.

i prefer the old schools for sure...likely always will too.

Here's the kicker specs:
sealed is 1.25 cu ft recommended
ported is 1.75 cu ft with 4" port at 9.25" length

I snapped a quick pic of one of my subs. The other looks the same condition.
Near new looking with very minor signs of use. not one blemish on the cork gaskets or foam surrounds.
I was planning on using these at some point but they might as well be used by someone who will appreciate them.

Those are nice kickers, my friend back in high school had a set in his ford probe on an soundstream ref300x at 2 ohms, it really was loud and tight where i had a set of jbl gt 12's on a ss ref500sx at 2ohms and might was just stupidly loud and clean both sealed box applications

Mike ...Just an FYI ...I have 2 Mint Old-Skool TI10D4's just sitting in the garage  if you decide to go with a 10" vs 12" sub. Air space is .55ft^3 per sub and are rated at 450wrms ...best sounding 10" I've used with the exception of the IDMAX10v3 I was running before I sold my Camaro.

Kg1961, I didn't realize how many people wanted these subs. I've got other members sending messages to try and buy these also. Lol. I'm in no rush to get rid of them, but let me know when you've decided if you'd like to use these or not. If not I'll let another member buy them.
Old school ftw.

I was never a fan of kicker not because you could not make them sound good but because it just took a bigger box and more power then a lot of other subs needed to be as loud and clean. I would rather a pair of x-max over kickers myself.

I always liked the round solo-barics but from that era my favorite sub was the jl w6. Despite the strange ohm load I always ran a single 12 and it sounded phenomenal.

I also had an Aura Force 12 and that was a great sub too.

i always thought mtx was pretty decent stuff....they were geared more towards spl but still good stuff.
the 1st line of thunder amps were class a though.......at least from what my owners manuals always said.
