Installing new H/U

Post by Drock »

I just installed a new h/u, thanks to Mike.
Pioneer nex8000.
There are two wires i need info on to hook up.

First is the reverse/backup lead to turn on the rearview camera.

Second is the speed sensor wire.

My truck is a 2001 gmc sierra 2500hd.

Can anyone tell me what wires im my truck i need to tap into?

I would really like to finish this up today.

Also i am wondering if anyone knows if there is a double din mounting bracket for my truck? I had to do some mods to fit the dd deck so i know its not supposed to fit.

I googled mine and a color coded image pops up. Either google or search a GMC truck forum.

as always test the wires before you splice into them. The interwebz can be wrong from time to time.

I will. Thanks Scott, at least it gives me an idea where to start.

Still need to find the speed sensor wire.

I can't say I have ever heard of any manufacturer giving out color codes. If you got a response to that email I would be surprised.

I don't have access to info on that specific vehicle but I think can get it from a different resource. Give me a few, and any other wires you need?

What do you need the speed wire for? If it's for the nav you don't need it. I just hooked up he gps antenna and it figures it out and it's accurate. Btw I have another model pioneer NEX model.
A few of these and a few of those.

You can pick up the speed wire either at the PCM or at the back of the tach. On my 2002 Ls1 PCM (Camaro S/S harness) IIRC, the wire color was white.

Thanks guys.
Gps is working fine as is without the speed sense wire hooked up, but I think this wire works with other features like keeping track of milage and efficiency.
