Need some help guys

So as yall know im not the most educated nor seasoned person here but i know the fundamental rules and consider myself a decent installer. ive only had 2 issues in the past 6yrs here on the phorum w my all my pg gear i have and had. And one of the two happened today on ny way home from work. Its about a 30min drive one way.

Heres the issue.

I was playing my music about 1/3 (25 out of 67 my normal listening level. About 15min into the drive my sub amp goes into protect mode. Well i fig it may have gotten hot so i turn my bc off and the volume down to about 15 and about 2-4min later the amp came back on and played fine. During the protect mode time i set my hand on the amp to feel if she was hot and she wasnt, i felt warm air coming out of the vent and the top of the amp was ambient. So this has really baffled me. Heres a summary of the setup. So you have better info to make a judgement.

*1998 Toyata 4runner
*Big 3 done (4ga)
*155amp upgraded alt
*0ga power from battery to fused distro under rear seats
*4ga to both mid/highs & sub amp
*4ga grounds from both amps to same point
*pioneer premier deh-p880prs hu (no boosts on sub or bass, mids and sub xover set at 0 & highs xover is reduced to -3db for levels)
*pg bc (freq set to about 40z and volume usually set at 1/3
*TLD66 set at 10v rms when volume is at 50 on hu
*pg ti500.4 mids and highs set at by amp, gain at 8v, bass 0
*pg ti800.1 sub set at by amp, gain at 8v, bass 0
(Note-amps set at byamp since i control my xover points from my hu)
*pg ti 12d4 (single sub) wired at a 2 ohm load on ti800.1 w 10ga wire in a 1.8cuft box port tuned at roughly 34hz

So if any of u could please help w any suggestions as to why the amp went into therm mode. Ive never had an amp do this. I know pg rated the ti800.1 for a 4ohm (400w rms) and 2ohm (800w rms) so its not like i have the final load to low on the amp.

So please any help diagnosing would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Du you mean the red or the yellow light, the yellow if it is to hot (thermal) protect is if its shorted or to high voltage etc.
I cant help you much here there are far better people on this phorum for that so i just wanted to get clear what light it was.

So without knowing which light was on when it was in protect might make this difficult. If it was thermal you might have the thermal sensor in the amp going bad. It sounds more likely it is a voltage issue. Check your voltages at the amp may be a weak ground or fuse. I had a voltage regulator go out once and was charging the car at 16v. So with the upgraded alt you may have a similar issue. Also check you don't have an accidentally pinched sub speaker wire somewhere from the front to the back. Hope this helps.

Ill see if i can cause her to do this again tomorrow and check the light.

Art it cant be the alt, i have a volt meter running off my distro block and i run 15v when cold and when she went into protect my normal operating voltage is 14.6

Ok. So over volting is not the problem then. Still double check voltage at the amps just in case a power wire from the distro to the amp isn't coming loose. I would think the volt meter gets its reading before the voltage is split. Could maybe have a voice coil that is starting to short when it gets warm. Rare but it does happen. Too bad your not local this would be way easier to figure out if I could see the car :P

The TI800.1 needs a lot of air in order to cool itself down. Make sure you have at list 1.5" on top.

Thanks art and valeks.

I wish u could hear her art! I love this setup!

Valeks, i have about 2.5" between the top of her and the bottom of the seat. Im confident theres enough air for her. When i layed my hand on top of her she was ambient w warm air coming out the fins so i cant really see how itll be a thermal issue. We will see this evenong on my way home

Its overload(red) or trigger thermal protection(yellow)?
