Audison just came in!

Post by Chiapet »

Got my Audison bit one today, and I'm stoked. Also got an email from a shop trying to get me a Zen 9.

I still have a slight dilemma.

First is the use of a center channel. yay or nay? with the bit one i'm not sure it is needed.

If I use it, the system will look as follows.

Zen 9 channels

1-2: 2 not used, channel one as center 5 1/4" PG elite(Morel).
3-4: PG 6.5 elite component set(Morel)
5-6: Morel CAW 6.5 raw drivers and another pair of Pg elite tweeters for rear fill
7-8: PG 9" elite midbass(Morel)
9: Audison 10" Thesis Basso (2)

component sets will run through the PG titanium Passives that came with elites.

yay or nay? my biggest issue is actually having 8 channels with the bit one.

I would like to run the tweets and 6.5"s seperately but I think im just splitting hairs. Also not sure if I should dedicate the 2 channels for rear fill

what do you all think?

Sounds like you have it down. If I remember right you can make 1 ch center and 1 sub on the bit one. You should be dialed.

So in essence you are running 3 ways up from with 9", 6.5" and tweeters, and then in back you are running 6.5 and tweeters, then a pair of 10" subs?

If I could make a suggestion...with 9" mid woofers why just go with 10" subs? I would go with a single 15 to hit the low lows better. I like 10s because they hit the higher bass notes but the 9s should do that just fine.

In regards to the center, a good DSP can give you perfect imaging without a center speaker, but just in one seat. So only the driver or only the passenger can have perfect imaging. The other will have horrible imaging. A center channel will not have imaging as good, but all front seat passengers get really good imaging.

Congrats on the bit one. I'm curious to get your opinion but I hear only great things about it. Also good luck on the zen9. I really want one too but I don't have the real estate for that in my car.

I have never seen the use of a center channel outside of video set ups as musically if you can't get your imaging and soundstage right with 2 speakers a 3rd up front will never help.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Well I have space issues. I could conceivably go with 12s, but I'm limited on mounting depth to about 6 inches. I could also just drop the 9"s. It does seem a bit much. I guess it's more of a" well I have them I can use them. I'm also not completely sold on rear fill. With the audison and zen 9 I will have a pure signal to the speakers except for the passives. If I drop the 9s I could go direct to each speaker which would give me ultimate control on time alignment. If I don't use the center channel, the zen 9 will have 2 unused channels. Not a biggy but still. I could also set it up with the bit one so that I can switch between using the center and disabling it. Which is now what I think I will do regardless of using the 9s.

I would drop the 9s and run active. You can have rear fill since hat could always be turned off if you prefer it without. As for center, ttocs has a point, but I have seen some installs with them where it did help. Again, the benefit for a center is giving good imaging for both front seat passengers, if it's just you and your typical passenger doesn't care then leave the center out and get yourself great imaging.

What car is all of this going in?

You're getting your zen9 from the same place I got mine. Hopefully they come in next month! I can't wait.

the audison only has 8 channels, if i go big, then i will need the passives for the 6 1/2s and tweets.
