What kind of tweeter protection does it have?

And what's the most rms power this set can handle?

I'm thinking about getting a 4" coax (tweet disabled) mid for the 3 way set I have planned and useing it in place of the 6" mid w/the RSD crossovers. Anyone have any opinions/thoughts about the freq responce of the RSD 4" coax?

W/the RSD tweet and the RSD coax 4" mid on the RSD Xover, what would the max rms power be for that set up?

What about the RSD 5" wether it's the comp or coax in place of the 3"/4"?

Use the 3".

I do not suggest using the 3 in place of the 6 as the XO is designed with the parameters of the 6 and as a 2-way set not a 3-way.

Go active or design your own............

Send me a close up pic of the crossover board and i will pick out your tweeter protection. I used some older high end MB Quarts crossovers once and all I had to do is clip one lead on the little orange fella that was a MOV < Metal Oxide Varistor> and Viola no more tweeter protection.
Oh and guess what no blown tweeters either, so I always cut those things out.

Yes, but shouldn't the xover point be the same as long as the 3" mid is still 4 ohms?

I don't have the funds, currently, to run all 3 active. I have a HU to do it (Eclipse CD8455), but would need an outboard EQ and another amp, as I'd want to use something else other than the ZPA0.3 on the 6's, but more importantly, I don't have the room for all of that suff.

EVERY bit of space is already taken up w/just the two ZPA amps, the basscube, distro block and the sub/enclosure.

I do all my installs so they can be returned back to normal, or asclose as possable w/o having to buy anything to replace something. I thougt about glassing one of the amps in the bottom of the 3 rd door.

The little Tweeter protection caps suck. It really makes the tweeters sound like crap. I always take them out. And if I can change an electrolytic to a poly I do that as well.
Best type caps I heard are metallized polyester film. To me Solen sux. Daytin Really Sux. But Im gettin off subject Sorry

teflon>polypropylene>>metallized PPE >metallized polyester

solens are metallized PPEs and MKT ( metallized PPE ) in general should sound better than polyester or metallized polyesters though it still comes down to individual. Cheap plastic caps are usually polyester types.

by the way what caps do u use ?
my favorite has always been ansar polypropylene caps. They are some of the better pure PPE caps that doesnt cost an arm and a leg like mundorf and many other.

I use Mallory. I like using small values and putting them in parallel for more capacitance. When you do that you get less resistance which is a good thing.
To me the Polyester mallory brand sounds more analog. The Polyprops sound more digital and dont give that good depth or warmth. The Mallory caps I use sound open and more realistic. They dont sound plastic!
I just bought some Audiobahn passive crossovers and replaced the crappy electro caps and the one polyprop on the tweeter with all Mallory. I didnt change anything else. The difference was HUGE! Even my not so interested Girlfriend asked what I did to the speakers cause they sounded allot better.
I told her All I did was upgrade the caps. She said "Caps? Um ok I wont ask" LOL I laughed cause she never understands what Iam talking about when it comes to stereo gear....
They are very cheap and easy to find. Its the little green square caps.

from what u describe they seem to sound warm , i wanna give them shot an c.

SM, can you get me a close Hi-res image top and bottom of the XO in question.

I have had no luck in my quest, I'll do some plotting of my own and see if I can give you a good answer.

If I would've cought this post about 2 hours ago sure. But as I just intalled them and the Xover was a pain in the ass to get in the limited space I had.

I understand that myself, I blew up you posted pic and I can not see any tweeter protectors at all. Protectors vary from maker to maker but I did not see any on the top side of the board so perhaps there running free.

Old school MB Quart and Kicker for sure have them on there high end stuff. Your crossovers look like my Zero point crossovers I got from Mando. I did not see any protectors on them either.

IIRC these have no tweeter protection in the fashion you would normally see but they use a notch (?proper term) filter to eliminate DCV.

Not sure if you still need the pics of the crossover but here you go. Since I can't install it yet I need an excuse to take it out of the box and play with it.
