Ground Speaker Terminal Problems on Amp

Hi,

Need to get some general advice on what to look for. Here is what's happening and it's the amplifier (-) speaker terminal causing the issue.

When hooking any speaker up to CH1 it emits a loud static noise and plays 2-3x times as loud as it should be playing. This will eventually go away, but then it plays probably 2x lower than it should. As far as different speakers, cables, etc, it's been narrowed down to the negative speaker terminal. The amp is a soundstream 4.600.

You get a real appreciation for the MS/MPS amps when you look at some of these newer and cheaper amps these days! Now I wish I'd never sold my mint 2125

Any help would be great.

Is this the amp?



If so then the negative terminal on CH1 is the signal ground...so its impossible to say that the negative/signal ground is the cause as its the positive terminal. See the four middle terminals are all signal ground and the outer four are the ch that are tied directly to each ch/amplifier, therefore you use the outer when bridging....one channnel is already inverted if you notice that.

Have did any do any of the basic switch out tests? Such as switching/swapping RCAs, speakers, speaker wires, passives, ect. (ch2 to ch1 just to see if the problem goes away).

Yeah that's the amp. CH2 negative speaker terminal is having the issue.

Oh yeah, I did notice that.

Yeah I switched out rca's, different speakers, put different speakers and the same speakers on ch1, ch2, ch3, ch4, had the rca's completely disconnected from the amp also.

Hey Tricky,

I also tried to bridge the speaker by using ch2(-) and ch1(+) and it exhibited the same problem. When using ch1 only it's fine. Ch3, Ch4 is fine as far as I can tell/hear. I've basically done all I can think of to try and isolate it to the CH2.

I may have said ch1 was bad at first, but it's ch2. I'm not used to going right to left, but rather going from left to right, LOL>

Channel two may be damaged...could be add simple as a bad pot or switch or could be as bad as replacing several components.

Ty Tricky. CH1 is starting to do the same thing, but not nearly as bad or as frequent. I'm thinking of just junking the amp and buying a different one at this point.

Simply junk...replaceable replaceable. That's how today amps are built, to be thrown away and replaced by another similar.
