Lineage of Phoenix Gold amps

Post by sunshinefc3s »

I'm in my mid 30s, and when I was in high school (1993-1997), I think the original zero point amps were popular. I've followed PG since then, but know very little of the older amps (M, MS, etc...). Can someone break it down for me. Years of manufacture, models, other helpful info like strengths (eg, clean power) and weaknesses (eg, caps). Or, if there is a link/thread already...can you link me up?

I'm on an old school kick right now and want to make sure I get my hands on some PG goodness too (just picked up a Rockford Fosgate 4040 DSM for cheap).
Thanks.

Thanks. I'm a little confused though...that website lists the MS/MPS and the M as 1992-1995 year of manufacture. Does this mean they were different lines sold at the smae time (like today, for example, we have Ti2 and Elite sold side by side). If so, which was the higher end line?

The ms and mps were both top of the line. The mps put out its max power at a lower ohm and would alow you to run in a lower power class hence why they are called cheater amps.

The m series came out about a yr after the ms/mps. But both ran at the same time. The m series was their "entry" level line. But some argue that the m sounds better.

Even their r & d engineer at the time states that pg tried things to make both lines sound better but achieved nothing from upgrades.

Go fig
