Phoenix Gold Phorum

Hey guys, got a bad Xenon 200.4. When connected to power, and no input connection (just output), it sends a high pitched noise through the speaker. Two of the little LEDs light up by the power/ground terminals - D8 and D15. D8 lights up first, and then goes out, but D15 stays lit. Plus, as you can see in the pic there is a lot of dust on the board, but its localized just to that section. The rest of the boards is spotless.

Any thoughts or help appreciated. Happy thanksgiving!

Looks like something was possibly spilled there which is why the dust is localized to that area. Try cleaning with alcohol. Good luck on the repair, that is a great amp.

Great amp in deed, I purchase one recently and bench tested it. Put out 957watts total on two 8ohm loads (bridged, two channels which is the same as 4 ch @4ohm not that it matters because the amp puts out rated power from 1-4 ohms stereo).

I agree with rodeo, clean it up first (discharge first) might not fix the issue but at least give you a clean area to start working off of. I would try dusting it off with slight pressured air (make sure its oil-free compressor, or air in a can will work also).

What do you mean "discharge"? I'll grab a can of compressed air today. Is regular pharmacy style Isopropyl Alcohol ok?

With all those filter caps in the PS section they are bound to hold charge, discharge them by shorting + and ground terminals of the amplifier with either a 10ohm or higher resistor or a lamp bulb.

99% iso is best, don't use anything less than 95%.

OK, I got some denatured alcohol and a can of air. Put a bulb across the terminals, cleaned it up and let it dry. Hooked it up and same noise, same LEDs light up.

Any thoughts of next steps? Thanks!

Am not too familiar with these but does the other channels LED's light up?

I double checked today. No other LEDs light up
Just those two I mentioned. Any advice on how to proceed?
