mq430 rebuilds

I am going to be swapping the caps in a couple of these and hoped someone could maybe help me locate the correct caps? I can't seem to find the right size/style and hoped someone had a little better grasp on all the types or how to search through them?

I took the blank heat sink i cut in half and had it decked so it was perfectly flat on the side I cut it. For only $10 the machine shop did me a solid for sure. Now I will be able to make my monster, the MQ1290.

I still need to drill out the holes where the socket head screws will rest inside the blank sink but once that is done it should sit perfectly flush on both ends and once it is all franked be a bad bitch.

One difference I noticed and was curious about on the two was on the torroid wiring. On one the speaker ground wires are wire-tied to it and it curves up/over the fuse, on the other the speaker wires are tied to the other torroid wiring and its not bent as drastically. Anyone else with a 430 that can look to see how theirs looks?


and again if anyone can help with the caps I would owe you. I was hoping to have this page up for others later that might rebuild a 430 so it could help more then me later. I wanted to stay nichicon but the only ones I can find are too tall and will not fit. I can find larger rated caps that would fit and it makes me wonder if its a good time to increase capacatence or if it could be a bad thing?

The ones used on the amp are 35mm...so you can replace them with 35mm. I use Panasonic 16v 8200uf that are 18mm diameter and 35mm length available at mouser and digikey.

Increasing the capacitance on the primary and secondary is always a good thing, unless you go the cheap route and buy some cheap generic caps (capxon,sawha, ect) and have worse specs than original.

Your welcome, remember the caps I included on the 430 I traded you for a ms2240? Those are 18mm x 35mm and fit all MS amps.

I have the parts for this coming tomorrow so I decided to start the teardown. Funny when I got inside one I never noticed that someone added some heat sinks to U2 and U3 and soldered a piece of wire in the one smaller fuse. I thought I read that if those fuses blow they tend to do more damage then good but anyone ever seen the heatsinks before? Just curious.

I've got some of those heat sinks and also use them for those same regulators, for the -/+15v rails. I've seen some smaller MS amps with it and others without it, of course the bigger amps use a current limit resistor and 15v zener diodes for the -/+15v rails. As for the fuse you can go with a higher current rating instead of soldering a wire across it (cosmetic wise will look better), I think 20a may be the limit on those fuses you may even find it in "slo-blow".

Are you sure? Those on the smaller MS are for TO-92 (voltage regulators) and the ones on the 2250 are on the predrivers and are TO-126.

got all the screws out of the transistors and started trying to pry them off the heat sink. It seems as though they are a lot tighter then the 2250s I have done. Is there a better way then the allen wrench method?

Aavid is the manufacture and 575200B00000G is the part number. I didn't attach link because mouser and digikey may use different part numbers for their stock but same manufacture number.

Are you sure? Those on the smaller MS are for TO-92 (voltage regulators) and the ones on the 2250 are on the predrivers and are TO-126.

Ha your right I got confused witch thread this was scott has to much going on ...the 2250 has little heat sinks but not that little don't think my 430 has those are they glued on?

looks like a dab of glue to the cap to hold them on.
