Noises

Hey does anyone have that link that was posted a while ago that went over many of the reasons you might get noise in your system?
I seem to have this problem with Clarion headunits but if anyone knows off hand what it is, let me know what I can do.
I just get a constant almost whistle when I am driving, it seems to go with the idle of the car. If I am on the highway, it is loudest because the car's rpms are the highest then.
I am thinking it could be picking up alternator noise but what causes that? Not enough power(battery dying)? Gain too high on my amp? My ground is touching scraped bare metal but it is a thin piece of sheet metal it is attached to. All I have is an RSd500.4 running at 4 ohms in my vw.
The battery doesn't seem to be bad but I do get an interruption whenever I use anything powered in the vw, like the headlights will kind of blink when I use the power windows or moonroof. I just figured that was part of vws bad electrical systems but let me know if it sounds like a battery issue. I do have a nice Stinger sp1000 freed up since I took the colt apart
...but it would be nice to use the sp1000 as my primary battery in the vw since it is such a powerful little thing.
