Phoenix gold xenon x1200.1 microchip help

Post by Kfx5050 »

I purchase this amp off eBay already damaged. It appears somebody's already replace half of the power supply fets. I went through replace the output fets and also replace the IC drivers. the issue I'm having that's one of my inductors are getting extremely hot when the class d section turns on it pulls a ton of amperage with no load hooked to it.sometimes when I turn the amp on and goes in protect and if I wiggle this microchip around at powers up just fine but pulls a lot of amperage and then the 1 inductor get hot. Does anybody have this microchip. It's removable. The part number on top is pic16f676-i/p. One of the legs are broken off the chip unfortunately I'm not too sure if it might sustain any programming damage. I was trying to see if the x600.1 use the same chip if so does anybody have any extra they would like to sell? Ive try to include a picture but I keep getting a message saying only one megabyte is allowed the picture file is 3 megabytes.

Here the chip. It's right beside the pre-amp bored.

The pic micros are still available, but without the hex file to flash a new ic, it's not going to do any good. PICs are chosen because they have pretty good hardware level security. You can read the fine back from an unprotected micro, normally even one that's been severely damaged, but if the security fuses are blown then there is nothing within the reach of the average person to get the code off.

This is precisely why I almost always turn down amps with microcontrollers running the show. That said, I parted out a old xenon years ago. I'll see if I still have the microcontroller. I have no idea if it's good or even correct, but I'll look for you.

Later,
Jason

I would greatly appreciate that. I might try and soldering directly to the board

I haven't had a chance to look for the one I have, but no, you won't be able to bypass it. You may be able to get it running again by replacing the socket on the board. It looks like it's gone through WW2. You can Dremel away some of the IC's epoxy case above the broken lead. There is a fair amount of lead under the epoxy before the bond wire. You should be able to solder a lead to the stub as long as you are careful.

If you don't understand what I'm talking about for fixing the IC. Google "decapped" ic and look at the pictures too familiarize yourself with the anatomy of a integrated circuit.

Thanks I give that a try tonight. What's a sign that the security fuses have been blown?

The only way to tell if to put the ic in a programmer and try to read the code out. The fuses are part of the silicone die, you can't see them. Almost guaranteed they are set.

I looked through my drawer of spare parts and didn't find it. I need to dig through my boxes of junk in my attic for it. It's been years since I even saw the amp.
