RX 600.5 Reverse polarity diodes Help please!

Post by binary420 »

My friend bought a rx 600.5 that kept going into protection mode, likely due to him not wiring the speakers up properly but i hadnt seen it yet at that time so i dont know why for sure.

In troubleshooting, he ended up accidently wiring the main +12 and ground wires backwards, and blowing the inline +12 fuse by the car battery

after inspecting the amp, it appears the reverse polarity protection diodes have blown, and it appears there are 2, but the outer sheel has cracked apart and the part numbers of the diode are unreadable. does anyone have a schematic for this board, or can lead me in he right direction as far as how to wire a replacement, or whether or not this protection circuit can be bypassed with a jumper to just make the amp work again on the cheap?

i already snipped the leads of the diodes, and the amp blue light comes on, but its only pulling like 0.05-0.06 amps so im assuming this diode circuit needs to be replaced or jumped.

Also, from what i can tell there were 2 diodes 1 right on top of the other

thank you for any help

1N5400.

Any standard 3a rectifier with a >50V rating will work fine though. Their only job is to go short circuit when reverse polarity is applied. Kind of the opposite of a fuse to ensure the actual fuse does go open
