O.K here's the situ.

My tib is a shit 60 amp car (compared to the GK tib's more muscular 100amp) and I am running 3 amps and all kinds of other stuff besides.

This didn't seem to be a problem before I left Jerz because I drove around 70 miles a day and had no choice in it.

Here in OH I do 10 miles a day at best, and can't find reasons to drive like I could back there (friends, family and so on) I enjoy the peace and quiet now tbh away from all the drama.

However. Since I wired up the 6x9s and enabled the ZX amp I come out every single fucking morning to a flat battery.

I have had the alt tested, it's fine. I have had the battery replaced so it's new (under warranty and there wasnt even anything wrong with the last one) and so I am coming to the conclusion that my battery cannot charge as fast as my system drains it.

A friend has advised me to install a slave battery but there is nowhere to put it, and I cant help cranking the system to oblivion. So it's time to do something drastic because I'm sick and tired of jump starting my car all the fucking time.

I am going to remove the 18 and the audiobahn amp and reduce the system to the two amps. The front and rear stage will all be ran from the mps whilst the zx will go back to being a bridged sub amp. I will lose some serious volume and in turn serious bass but I'm just getting too old to accept an unreliable car because of the system I have chosen. Having half the fucking trunk back will make it nice, and I dont want to carry all that weight anymore either.

So, Im in the market for a 10 or 12" sub. Nothing SPL I want something that sounds amazingly clean and will drop. Was thinking possibly an RSD though I would love to use a Cerwin Vega Vmax.

Ideas please. and if you have anything suitable give me some prices :)

A 10" won't take any less power than an 18"...

If you want to stop draining your battery, try dropping your gains and disabling bass boost. Stop clipping the amps, and your current draw should become negligible.

My gains are all less than 60%. Basically I have tried that Stip and it's not going to work. If I want to run the system as it is I need to spend alot of cash on alt + slave battery and god knows what, and I dont want to.

I had the system running on 2 amps before, with a 12. I want to go back that way and remove the audiobahn amp to reduce the weight (the 18 will come out too)

I want a low powered 10, and it will need less power because the 18 is 600w 8ohm. I am looking at 150 watt 10's

So do you sit in your car and listen to tunes without driving it? You may be sucking more out of the system than you're replacing. Three amplifiers and "I cant help cranking the system to oblivion" on 10 miles a day. Yikes!

Or something you've recently installed is not powering off and drawing current when the car is off.

Dude, gains are not a volume control. Just setting them to 60% does not mean you are only using the amps at 60% of their capability. For example, with my 10 volt output, with my gains at 0%, I could still clip the amps by turning up the volume too high.

TBH man all the time I have that system in there I am not going to want to compromise.

I'm not one to avoid the facts, the facts are as follows.

I'm addicted to loud music and bass. I have been ever since I was a kid.

I'm getting too old to want to put in all the cash and stuff to be addicted to bass.

My car isnt getting any younger and I can't be bothered with it all. The system is pretty over the top and it's time I reduced it.

It's an addiction mang, with that kind of system in the car I cant fucking help myself. Seriously, I'm not kidding, I'm like a coke addict.

I'll get round the corner, turn the system on at a reasonable volume and before I know it it's at full crank and I'm 'seat dancing'.

The only way to take the temptation away is to reduce the system and the draw on the battery..

I have this addiction explained above. I will sit with my engine idling and watch a movie as loud as I can have it. Halloween was the latest culprit. I drove my car somewhere nice and remote (down by the river) wound up the windows and cranked it. Very scary it was LOL.

The problem is with 3 amps, head unit, dvd player, actives and god knows what else the alternator can't charge the battery as quickly as the system drains it. Even if I drive miles I have the system on full fucking blast all the way. The only way to stop this is to 'take the toys away from baby'.

I know, a grown man shouldnt admit to such stupidness, but it is a real problem like drugs or anything else.

I said ages ago that I dont play with systems I use them. Mine may not look pretty but it all works and I use it. Note the term 'use it' like every time I drive the fucking car it's used. I have not driven ONE single mile with no music playing and less with it playing so loud you cant even think.

The plan I have is one 10" being ran by the ZX (150-200 WRMS @ either 4 or 2 ohm) a nice long thrown woofer (been looking @ cerwin Vmax, earthquake, JBLS new GTO (which looks very very nice @ a great price) Pioneer premier (which I am hearing very good things about) and some others.

The thing is, the 18" was always confined. Yes it drops uber low but the enclosure is small. I honestly reakon with the correct 10" woofer I can achieve the same volume and punch (missing a little low end).

Getting rid of the largest amp will also reduce the strain on the car... And I'm sick of using up gas pulling all that weight around (the amp and sub probably weigh in at an extra 80-100lbs in the trunk)

The idea for the install is gonna be uber clean, sub in the middle and an amp either side. And, Itll be all PG on the amps now.

I know the mps will run my entire soundstage (all 3 sets of speakers) and I know the ZX sounds lovely through a sub (had a solobaric 12 and polk momo 12 also off that amp, even the 18) the sound Q out of the ZX shits ALL OVER that of the audiobahn, it just doesnt have the raw balls out power.

Right now it is a toss up between JBLS new GTO 10 and the pioneer ,because the CV is over $100 and the other 2 are just as good (I hear the pioneers are unbeatable for the cash) and cost about half.

I'm not paying an extra $50 for a badge.

Yes that could also be the culprit but all I have done lately is the lamp bar on the back and the red neon in the front.. Failing that or somethings awry in the system, and to find it means ripping it all out anyways...

Personally I think it was finally using all 3 amps. Its too much. Bear in mind the alt on my car is fucking WEENY small mang, lol its like a medium family sized can of baked beans LOL.

I have. Nothing clips and nothing cuts out and none of the clip lamps have ever lit on the amps.

OK.

#1. It isnt any of the lights because it has been doing it for weeks, long before I added any.

#2. I am beginning to suspect the cap, the neg terminal is loose.

#3. None of which are fixable until the system is all ripped out.

I am also beginning to seriously suspect the alarm. I think its fucked.

Right. The sub, sub amp and cap are all out. Wiring for these has all been removed and the main ground redone (even though it was fine.)

Right now I am torn between 2 scenarios.

1. get a low powered hi excursion 10" woofer and redoing the entire trunk.

2. Getting a Stroker 10 for $200 and using the audiobahn and MPS selling the ZX here for a good price.

What do you guys reakon? and please stop telling me to do x y and z with what I have, I need advice on the future :)

oh, either scenario will involve a complete rebuild of the trunk. I said I was going to do this but the mere mass of the 18 was making planning it all (with 3 amps) pretty much impossible.

If lo powered 10 - sell audiobahn

if hi powered 10 - sell ZX200.

I dont want to keep shit just to gather dust. The 18 will sell on ebay for a good price (because people on there will sell their asses for an 18)

I have a mental image of what I am going to aim for. And oh, the cap is going to me mate's work tonight to be properly read and tested. If it is the culprit it wont play a part in the new system.
