Kenwood XXV-01D
Purchased one of these off fleabay for 40 bux (after shipping)....minus the faceplate. However it has a security code. I dont know what it is, and the douche who sold it has not responded to my requests for it.

Anyone know the KCAR fix?
Specific to this deck? Plus I am in the process of getting another face plate. I own a 25th Anniv 01d already, just thot i'd get a spare....I like the deck alot.

Have you tried the factory ones? It seems most people don't even set things like that so when you get them used the codes are still 12345 or 00000. Don't know if its 4 or 5 digits. Just a thought. You could give it a try unless it's one of those things that totally shuts down if you try too many code combos.

Kenwood has no code set by default you have to intentionally activate it.

Guaranteed you now own a stolen HU.

Ya there is a way to reset it....But you either have to send/take it to a kenwood authorized repair center. And there is generic code you can put in...IE: ****RESOLVED It is a 4 digit code, but you dont put it in the same spot as the Security code. I have several reference points to the **** security code bypass.

The HU that I got, the guy sent me the manuals, as well as the passport paper thing that has the SN of the headunit. I dont think the unit is stolen. IF it was, he would not have the HU passport paper w/ sn that matches the head unit. Unless of course he stole the papers from the guy's house as well...

Oh I have a guy at Car Toys who can verify the KCAR code. Car Toys is an authorized dealer/service center. He is trying to look up the process to use the KCAR code. That is the process I need to know.

I can personally confirm that there is a factory back-door to overcome the security lock on a head unit, but it's not information to be openly distributed. As Errin mentioned, most circumstances that would require this process tend to revolve around theft. What was the seller's story as to what happened to the faceplate?

Someone broke into his car and stole the face. Which i believe him cuz he sent me everything else except the box.

Step 1. You need a kenwood remote that has a phone style keypad(there are many of them they have numbers and letters like a phone pad)

Again it may be different per deck...but worth a shot.

Well...since the info is obviously out there already, it makes my ethical decision a bit easier. I would have likely helped out established forum members anyhow, but now I don't have to second guess myself!

Yes, the described process does in fact work! And yes you are right, it does vary from model to model, but only in how you initiate the sequence. The volume buttons started to disappear on more and more models a few years ago, so the buttons for the sequence changed. The last series I personally unlocked at the shop were like this...

...and instead of the volume "up" button you would push and hold either the menu button or the auto button (one of the two, it escapes me! ) in addition to the display button as per the process you posted wakeup.

Now, obviously things have changed again with models like the XXV-01D because of even fewer buttons on the faceplate. While I owned one of these myself I never had to unlock it but it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out what has changed in the process for the newest models like this...

I would assume it's the auto button and the menu button but you may have to play around with it. Let me know if you need me to dig deeper.

I was just going to say that.. Although in fairness it could be a car dealer who bought the car and the faceplate wasnt in the car, or stolen recovered car etc..

Still, for 40 boys I would report the bumhole to ebay, and request my money back.

I liked it a lot! Great sound and features on that bad boy. Only things that bugged me were the difficulty of browsing thru the rotary controlled menu system while driving and the high pitched hum of the oel display. But I'm really sensitive to that sort of thing. I can hear the buzz of a muted television from the next room!

Oh man, that sound drove me up a wall too!

I hate going to people's houses where they just switch off the cable box and forget the TV, leaving it displaying black. I always have to ask... "uh, are you going to switch that off?"

Yes the key pad remote will work, however they are hard to come by.

Type 2 solved the problem. I knew there was. Just didnt know the EXACT method....

Basically the problem was the same as everything else, just use Auto and track up.

Edited and modified the process above so that it does not fall into the wrong hands.

Only problem with the deck is that the front outputs put out a buzz....Any ideas why it might do that? and my original xxv-01d Does not?!
Get engine noise when i rev the engine. Rear and subwoofer channels are fine.

We repair between 30 to 40 HU's a day at my shop. Now how many do you think show up from licensed OEM dealers without codes ? . And we fix them.

Its a car radio, not a bank vault. Please don't think its protected from a competent technician.


Codes

As stated the guy sent me everything but the faceplate....and if he actually stole it, why/how would he have an original manual, remote, media instruction manual, warranty card, ANDDDDDDD the Advanced Codec drive PHatnoise software cd, and passport card (orange card w/ serial number for the same deck?) unlesss the bumbling idiot who owned it left that in his car as well?
