I got bored today so I thought wth, i'll see if I can make a new amp rack that will house a couple of fans. Off to Lowes I go after I get off work to buy some 1x4's. I noticed there is a connector on the mps2500 labeled fan. Since i've got my amps upside down and plexi on top of them I need a way to cool them. My question is can I buy the connector that goes on the board(if so where at) and get 2 or 3 80mm fans, wire them together to the connector and just connect it to the amp or would I need to wire the fans another way?

You can usually find fans 80mm easily at computer stores....they will probably have a three wire setup....just ignore the yellow....which is fan speed control. You will just need red and black....
and you may of course need to take the head off the cable...or...splice.

if you guys need help getting some fans, I can get some fairly cheap....I'd have to double check pricing...but if you go to Pcclub.com, look at the fans their........

I can probably get them closer to 30-40 % off retail price.

Not ALL of the fans we carry...just some....so if you have your eye on some...... I might be able to help!

Those are the ones i'm looking at so far. No computer stores really around where i'm at that would be cheap.

Any of those you carry?

Sorry i did not get back to you guys. These fans are usually 12 volt fans so should work fine in the car.

The ones from pc club, I can possibly get, but those are clearance fans....so they may not be available.

Those are the fans I can get for sure.
Probably closer to 40% off on the price. Just to give you an idea.

And again should work in the car no problem. Might need to splice wires etc.

Pictures of what? Using fans to cool an amp?

Typically you would install them in some sort of shroud, or at least have them blow across the heatsink somehow. It's amazing what a bit of moving air can do.

Here's an example of fans used to cool an MS amplifier:

I've not taking any pictures of the amp rack/shroud that i'm working on right now for my amps since they are just wood, metal mesh, fiberglass and plexiglass. It's basically like the ms2250 in a way. What I would like to know is where I can get the connector to wire the fans together so I can just plug it into the connector on the amp.

then you're going to have flying wires draping over the circuit board let alone finding a way to pass the wires to outside the amp. I would just use the remote line from your deck to trigger a relay supplied with a 5-10 amp 12volt circuit for the fans.

I'll try and post a few pics of the one i'm working on right now sometime today perhaps.

That is true dedlyjedly as i've not really thought about that yet :)

Here is a quick paint that I did to show you sorta how i'm building the shroud. Does it look like it would coll descently or do I need to do it differently?
