I am writing this pretty late -- as my entire system was stolen -- But I was wondering if anyone else had a problem with their xenon component sets failing?

Every 6-8 months, my tweeters , or mid drivers would blow. And with that, the crossover networks would also stop working (I looked inside, and those white rectangular things (that said 10w0 or something on it) would have been burned and cracked.

I had to have entire setups replaced about 3 times now through PG warranty. I was running them with a x100.4 amp and I had the gains about 3/4 the way (b4 any distortion). I even had my bass boost turned all the way down and my Xover is set at 80hz.

The only thing that I never replaced was my 2 Xenon 12" subwoofers. These things had been pounding for 3-4 years I think and have never failed once.

On the same line -- I owned a X1200.1 back in the day and it blew as well (smoke fest).

Was there something wrong with the Xenon lineup?

My prior setup was the titanium/zx series which I shouldn't of ever got rid of --- that never failed me once.

If the white blocks you're describing in the passive crossover are burning and cracking then the crossover is burning off excessive amounts of heat. It sounds as if the amp was clipping. Did you set your gains with a multi-meter or by ear?

As Jed said, your gains seem to be too high. Drivers usually don't blow on their own. I have a Xenon on my fronts and had the gain at half and blew a mid. I lowered them to less than a quarter raised and never had a problem afterwards.

I just recently added a line driver and lowered the gain to 0, and it still gets ridiculously loud.

i think i remember vw337 telling me about a weak point in the crossover that sounded similar to this. if he doesnt chime in, you might shoot him a PM

if you are blowing them ever 6-8 months, something is definitely wrong with your gains or you have a bad connection somewhere.

where are they installed? kick panels, door? crossover point?

what it sounds like to me is happening, is you are pushing them to hard, not realizing it because of the way they are installed. if they are in a door, you can get lots of cancellation from holes in the door and not even realize how hard you are pushing them

also, as far as the amps, there WAS error in the first production run, where the boards didnt have enough solder to hold the parts on.

these were fixed free on warranty, so its possible you had one of those.

what ohm load where you running it at. if you were running it at 2 or 1 ohm, the second set of power terminals is important to have hooked up.

THe XO's do have a weak point and yes I concur that the gains may be a bit high.

Yes those are exactly the components that were burned and cracked every time. And my crossovers were placed right next to the amp in the trunk, side by side. My front components were in my door and I pillar (tweeter). So yes I suppose they might of been too high, but I didn't play them ridicously over -- I listened for distortion and put it below that , but I think what happens is I end up putting my equalizer on and bass boost from the deck.
