Whats so special about this Dac...Why is it prefered to a BB Dacs?

And what the hell is the difference between the the two op amps I have attacked?

The 627 is a single and the 2134 is a dual. Both are high quality op-amps with outrageously great spec's. Depending on use these are some of the best audio products money can buy.

As for why not BB DAC's, I would have to look that up. BB used to make the best back in the early 90's, back when cheap 1 bit came out. I have not kept up since then. I still have some of those older BB DAC's.

As I remember everybody was building separate DAC's back then saying they were we the best. To my memory they all used BB back then, and for the most part it was the after DAC electronics that made the difference. Again here is where BB op-amps also came into play as even then they had some of the best op-amps even back then.

There were others like AD, and now Nationals LM4562 super audio op-amp. The thing about op-amps in standard use like in car amps is that they all impart a SQ difference based on their internal design and device usage. But all op-amps are based on the original Operational Amplifier layout and therefore all use feedback loops and are a pretty much standard thing, hence their basic interchangeability in circuitry.

Only when there are gross differences do issues show up like instability, parasitic oscillation, lat6ch up, etc...

A lot of this info above is based solely on the way things were and have been. There are other points of view and other devices available to throw into this conversation, but that will just broaden the scope till your original question is lost in space and time.....C :)

I'm confused. The title asks about Sign Magnitude DAC and there are links to OpAmps. Did I miss something?

Two questions:

1) What is the difference between the Sign Magnitude DAC and the BB DAC

and

2) What is the difference between the two attached op-amps

Bdubs types a bit faster than he can think ;)
