Problem with x100.2

Hey guys,

I recently purchased this amp along with an x600.1 from someone on the caraudio forums. Anyway, while we are in the process of figuring out how to settle all this I thought I would ask here to see if anyone has had the same problem.

In order to test the amp after receiving it, I took it down to a local car audio shop. We hooked it up to the test board and it came right up. We then decided to bridge it to a sub. We instantly heard what sounded like scratching in the sub. So then we hooked up the x600.1 and it was gone. So we figured it had to be the amp. We hooked the x100.2 back up and hooked the left channel up to a 4" coax speaker. The distortion was back. So, using the same RCA jack, we moved the speaker wire to the right channel, and voila, no more distortion. So what inside the amp would cause just the left side to distort. It really makes me mad because these are some nice looking amps IMO and I was really excited to use them.

I hear ya....they are some nice amps...I am not a techy guy when it comes to the insides of amps and such...anyway I dont think i can help you much, but there are several people on here with some knowledge that can assist you. I would suggest if you can open the amps up and snap some pictures, that might help.

Well I opened it up and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. If someone would like pics of a certain area on the amp I would be more than happy to oblige. I love macro mode

Your scratchy channel has issues, most probably it has be stretched beyond its 100 watt rating, The scratchy distortion sounds like it has sizzled a few current limits on that channel.

Phoenix Gold has very reasonable flat rates to repair this amp. I would call them directly using the phone number posted on their new web site do a search using the the name RODIN < PG's new name nowadays. Ask for Phil the service manager, he can set you straight right away with flat costs, and approximate lead time to return and what not....

would that explain why the distortion doesn't get noticeable or pronounce itself until the gain is turned up aways? Like it sounds clean up until you get to a certain point whereas the right channel is clean at all gain settings up to the right setting.

If you decide you'd want to replace this amp, I have an x100.2 and if you want to step up a bit in power I also have an x200.2 that I would be willing to part with.

Listening in to find out what the specific problem will be to lock away in my memory for future reference.
