Phoenix Gold Phorum

I just ordered a pair for my wife's car. I am planning on going ported with them...1.5@30Hz or so. I have an Octane R8.0:4 to power the subs (each pair of channels bridge to an SVC 10 and another R8.0:4 to power the mids/highs (JL Audio ZR series). If anyone has used these, lemme know what kinda results you've experienced. I wanted RSD's, but we are on an air base in Germany and Parts Express carries Octane amps and the Ryval subs, so I went with them.

i have heard they are quite musical are ridiculously efficient, but no experience with them. i should order one for kicks.

The Ryvals are tough little subs. We beat on them pretty hard during testing (lab-type stuff and in vehicle) and they held up great.

I'm quite excited about putting them in my wife's new Audi, that car really deserves some class and Phoenix Gold is delivering it at a reasonable price these days. So many people have reviewed the RSD subs and they really like them even compared to subs that cost over 4 x as much. My guess is that the Ryvals will follow that heritage and do well for me. I haven't owned anything made by PG in a while...a long while (M50, M25 Era) but I have heard some recent stuff and loved it. I just wish I would have though about the Roadster 66 before I bought the pair of Octane amps.

I have tried Xmax10, Tantrum10, RSd10, RSd12, RSdC12, and Ryval 10 and 12.

By far I like the Ryval subs the best. I am not an SPL guy. I listen mostly to rock.

Right now I am running 2x Ryval 10's wired to 2 ohms on a Ryval V8001, sealed box. Sounds kick ass.

They have the dual venting on the cone and VC. Don't let the price fool you, this is a versitile little speaker with a whole lot of heart and the same PG pride you crave, engineered in- top to bottom, here in USA.

huh.. I am having a hard time believing this..

what kind of music do you listen to OSF? i dont see how its scientificly possable for them to keep up with the rsd's in the low end.

I was modeling them in Win ISD and in a ported application they seem to have ample low end. I was modeling a 1.5 cubic foot box net with a tuning of 30Hz and at 30 the graph showed -3.74 db....not too shabby!

Keep up with or sound better to my ears? I think it has to do with their sensitivity. Different animals, I like the Ryvals, my opinion only.

Yes RSd and RSdC are monsters. I just don't listen to music where their qualities shine. I have never run dual RSds, maybe that would change my mind.

I listen to some rock, some metal, mostly punk rock (nothing newer than 1986) (nothing played on the radio). Lot's of kick bass and bass guitar.

I use a few techno tracks with extremely dynamic bass lines to zero my system in. I put on radio rap stuff when I want to push the speakers beyond listenable limits, purely stress testing the poor things.

my bet is that you prefer the paper pulp cone vs the poly....With subs over time I've found paper to be a ti bit quicker w/o eqing on average, even though I found the RSd to be little bit quicker then the IDMAX. Nothing compares to metal though straight out of the box.


Im curious though how much EQ ability do you have? Did you EQ the system with every sub change?

Can we have some t/s parameter?

thats totally a strawman argument. of course a ms, but that has nothing to do with location of manufacture.

Believe it. Oldschoolfool tests lots of the new stuff out.
He and a couple of other guys around here are very honest in their evaluations of product. Obviously, everyone has different boxes with different speakers, and different music they like to listen to... so opinions vary.

If anybody needs an additional shot--

The Ryval subs are VERY musical. They have a very clean tight response, as mentioned they don't play the low notes that you would get with the RSd/Xenon/Ti Elite........but they would be my first option if I were looking for pure musicality out of the box with a lighter amp.


However for you SPL'ers, with a group of the 10's in a ported enclosure I did get some ridiculous output specs........with very little input power.

Does anyone have enclosure recommendations or T/S parameters for the Ryval SVC 10's? I wanna pre-plan an enclosure . Thanks in advance!
