Hi everyone,

I recently bought my first amps for my car and after a bit of research I decided to go for the PG M-series. I own a M44 and a M25 series II which will be installed as a "Route 66".
After buying the amps I found a PG EQ215x REALLY cheap.

My question is: How do I connect it to my M-amps and get the best possible setup? I'm still an ICE rookie so every piece of information is valuable to me.

The setup will also include Rainbow SLX210 Deluxe 4" compo front speakers, Rainbow SL6x9 rear speakers and two 500 WRMS 10" subs in a bandpass cabinet.

In my opinion, your best bet would be to run the M44 for the front components, and the rear 6x9s. Then use the M25 for your woofers.

Run a single set of RCAs from your deck to the inputs of the EQ215x.

Run the low pass outputs of the EQ215x to the M25, and use the internal crossover of the EQ215x to adjust the crossover point for the M25.

Run the high pass outputs of the EQ215x to your front inputs of the M44 which will then power your front components. Set the front crossover of the M44 to full range. The EQ215x will be controlling this.

Run the full range outputs of the EQ215x to the rear inputs of the M44. Connect the rear outputs of the M44 to your 6x9s. The M44’s rear crossover will now be controlling the 6x9s. This will allow you to adjust the 6x9s a bit lower to blend more with the subwoofers.

This is just my opinion, and it by no means the way you have to do it. There are many ways you can hook up the equipment you have and get it to work well.

I think Dr. Fosgate's plan is a good one. There are also many other options depending on your tastes.

For example, you could also run the 4" components off the M25, and bridge the M44 to run the two 10" subs, while leaving the 6x9's off of the headunit. This would give you louder bass, and slightly quieter rear fill.

There are hundreds of ways you could set this up... you have a very flexible configuration with your amplifiers.

It sounds pretty good what Eric D suggests. Using the M25 and the lowpass from the M44 for the subs was also my original plan before I bought the EQ - just as the manual for the M44 suggests.
The Rainbow 6x9 are already a bit more quiet compared to a lot of other loudspeakers I've heard. I like that because it "blends" better with the sub and gives it a softer sound.
The 4" is simply because I don't have space for anything else in my old Volvo.

Update...

I've been told that the EQ is outdated nowadays. I might as well buy an average HU, it is capable of the same. True?

i havnt seen any "average" head units with 15 band eq's....

i just checked out alpines line up....one head unit had a 5 band and that was a $450 headunit....

eclipse's cd7100 is $700 and has a 11 band...

It sure is, just ask Jed!! I have the older model (860mp) and it has a 13 band IIRC, but it's not independent left and right.

ooh, and 24 bit DAC's. that could be a future choice of mine....which would be a fairly distant future.

I wouldn't consider it being outdated at all. That's basically the same as saying the MS series of amps are outdated because they have no crossover built in or fans.

Basically boils down to what you want and what type of quality you are looking for.

Right now if you look around the 880PRS can be had for around $300 shipped, not to shabby!!

That's a pretty good deal I think. I've got the Eclipse right now. I've always heard the burr brown is really good. Mine doesn't have that, but it's got the 24bit dac though which is what I wanted in a HU.

Got mine from SoundDomain really cheap, pretty much 60% off price. I guess it was because they were slowly moving inventory and Eclipse also was coming out with a new line, just adding x100 to the end of the products.

back to the original question. i still maintain the eq15 is far from worthless. not to mention it looks sick as hell

Nice to know. Not that I would even consider leaving it out of my setup. It looks really good with my M- and MPS-series amps.

Did you buy that mps from dba for 400 dkk ?
