new rsd's few questions

so i just got back from the audio shop and picked up 3 rsd 12's for $330. pretty good price i thought. i went in with the intentions of getting dvc to wire it up for a 2.7ohm load. well they didnt have any dvc in stock so i ended up with svc because the guy told me they have ran the rsd 1200.1 to a one ohm load wiht no problems. just wondering if anyone of you has run the 1200.1 to a 1 ohm load?? looks like it will be about 1.3 ohms once its all done. also i had plans to mount them inverted but noticed that the rubber seal around the edge of the sub only fits on one way...anyone know how to invert the rsds???

thanks in advance

Return one of the woofers... two will be nearly as loud and much less problematic than three.

stipud,
initially i was gonna run just 2 12's but the problem is everyone at my school already has 2 12's, and im NOT the type of person that wants to be like everyone else....

You want to be unique huh? Run two 12's in an isobaric setup then.

WOW....hmmmm, ideas are brewin already....plexigass box with an isobaric setup. its my first box though, gotta try and keep it somewhat simple

There's nothing special about an isobaric box. You pretty much just take the normal box for a single sealed woofer, and mount two into the hole. Only difference is that you have to mount one on the face and one on the inside, so you would need to install the speakers before installing the face of the box.

is it possible to mount the rsd inverted though?? cuz if its not then an isobaric setup isnt possible really

the rubber gasket will flip around, so mounting it inverted is no problem.

to run that amp at 1ohm, i definitely recommend a capacitor and very stout wiring.

although, running the pair of them would honestly be a better all around solution.

as a rule of thumb, you only gain about 3db's when you double the cone area, so by adding the 3rd sub you are gaining less then 1.5db's...

and adding more strain on your amp and electrical system

And more chance of burning up the amp or subs YAAAAAY

just like the guys that have already responded i wouldn't recommend running the rsd1200.1 @ 1 ohm loads. so, with svc rsd 12's a three sub configuration is not optimal. The best setup would be to run a pair of the subs as suggested. to run additional subs you'll either want to track down the dvc's or change the amp. did you just buy the amp as well? if so, you could return it and get credit towards a pair of the 600.1's and run a pair of the subs on each amp.

well thanks for all the input. i think u guys have talked me out of adding the 3rd sub. i just read my invoice and i can exchange or return for store credit before 30 days. since i havnt got the amp yet, ill just return one sub and put it toward the 1200.1. since im only building a box for two now, my whole plan has been scrapped. anyone got any ideas for a unique WOOD sub box? its goin in the back seat of an expedition w/o the 3rd row but i would still like to have some trunk space. all ideas will be welcome.

oh my, that looks suppper hard. i think im gonna stick to a sealed enclosure for my first box, worrying about tuning a ported box is a little too difficult. please keep the ideas coming, i am willing to work with glass if the end result will give me the wow factor. thats really all im looking for, i want the WOW when the trunk is open

Check out our installs section, some of the guys here have pretty nice setups with good integration.

With independence rise, you will be running above 1.3 ohms.. I say go for it, it should work fine..

FYI the RSD1200.1 will run happily on a 1 ohm load.....it is not in the specs but as long as you adjust things properly the thing performs like a beast at 1 ohm.

with independence rise I could see any half way decent class d amp being able to take the 1.3 load, but now that you mention it handles 1ohm load easy, then this opens up some ideas of subs i counted out.. Any slight power increase?

ahah, well i dont want to push anything to its limit. id rather just have a clean and reliable system so thats why i think im gonna take most of ur advice and stick to two 12's. should still hit plenty hard id imagine??
now i jsut need to some ideas for a box!! back of an expedition, willing to do some glass and mdf work. hit me up with some ideas!!

thanks in advance

Why dont you buy another one and run 4

trust me, ive definately thought about it. but if i ran 4 12's then i would have to get another 1200.1 and an another sub. theres $400 right there. trying to keep the whole system under a grand the best i can, that would blow me out of my budget way to easily

A 1200.1 could easily run four subs, if that's your concern... You would need 4 dual voicecoil 4 ohm woofers though.

yes, definately gonna upgrade the door speakers. just cant decide yet if i wanna get the 250.2 and components for the fronts and leave the rear stock running off the hu or if i wanna get the 500.4 with components all around. decisions, decisions.
