Looking for 4" PG components...but can´t find any...!

...as stated in "subject" I´ve been looking for a set of 4" PG compo´s for my car but can´t find it anywhere...anybody outthere who knows where to find it or what to look for? I might as well mount PG all over now that I got hooked on this fabolous brand. :-)

I don´t mind if it´s an older series as long as it suits my M-series Amps.

-by the way...I have a pair of oldschool (1978) Pioneer TS-X9 speakers that I might mount as rearspeakers. The Pioneers are two-way with a 4" mid and a 2" "tweeter". They´re 40W peak and approx. 20W RMS. (see pics)

Is it enough to get good SQ with the above PG´s as front and a bandpass sub cabinet in the trunk?
Otherwise I might mount 6x9" rear...

All good pieces of advice are higly appreciated.

PG doesn't make a 4" comp set....sad i know (they would work great in old Toyota Tacomas)

what car is it going into? what speaker opening size?

the PG rsd coaxials are surprisingly good. they do have a passive crossover for the tweeter, so they are very comparable to many component sets out there.

and chance of a kick panel install or modifying the car to fir a 130mm component set?

It´s a Volvo 244 GLE from ´79 that I try to keep as original as possible. Because if that I can't modify the doors and make space for 5,25". The other problem is that the mounting depth can't be more than approx. 2"...sucks.

I prefer the SQ of compo´s compared to coax speakers. The setups I´ve listened to had a much clearer sound...but that was Rainbow speakers and they are now my choice since PG doesn´t make the 4".

Any comments on the Pioneers?

i honestly don't think those pioneers are going to sound nicer then the RSD coax's

this set on the other hand would most likely sound better then the rsd coax though:

another option could be creating your own set. do you have a 4 channel amp?

you could bi-amp one of these mids: http://www.madisound.com/catalog/index. ... 45_228_253
(the moral's are known to be good and the audax looks damn beefy)

with one of these tweets http://www.madisound.com/catalog/index. ... 29_270_324
(http://www.madisound.com/catalog/produc ... cts_id=698 seems well suited)

and have better sound then any similarly priced component set out there!

My setup is this: M44 + M25 + EQ215x...

I like the Rainbow Vanadiums but I'm a poor student so I might go for these instead..: http://car.rainbow-audio.de/products/de ... art=231104

I'm rather new to this stuff so please explain what bi-amp is :D

I kinda knew the Pioneers sucked. Just wanted a second opinion.

bi amp is using 1 channel to power the mid, and another channel for the tweeter (instead of using 1 channel and using a passive crossover to split the high and low signal) it is also known as "running active"

so you could use your m44 front channels to power the left and right tweeters, and the rear channels to power the left and right mids. then save the m25 for sub-woofer duties

(and deck power for the rear speakers if you want them)

the rainbows would be a ton easier however.

My plan is to use the M25 + M44 as shown as option 2 in the manual for the M44. (using the M25 as an amp and the lowpass on the M44 for sub duties and hipass and the four channels on the M44 for front + rear).

Is it necessary with 6x9" as rear speakers or can I use 5x7" or 6,5" and get SQ still?

that will work just fine also.

no, 6x9's are not necessary for the SQ at all (in fact most skip rear speakers altogether)

also, a 6.5 will normally have more controlled bass, because it is a round speaker.

if you want a rear fill speaker, just use whatever fits

-thanks Bfowler-

I had the opportunity some weeks ago to listen to a set of Rainbow SL69 (6x9" coaxial) and they sounded really nice because they were a bit more "anonymous" in the sound (don't know how to describe it really) compared to a pair of MDS 6x9" I compared them to. The latter were to high pitched and dominated the sound too much compared to the Rainbow.

What is PG like? I have absolutely no experience with'em since the only place where the PG speakers are sold in Denmark is in a crappy store where there's no chance at all to listen to them properly... :(
(The PG Radial SD 6,5" is what's available here...)

I was told that a pair of 6x9" sounds almost like a pair of 6"...what's the advantage of having a round speaker if an oval (almost) plays the same way?

the PG is very even sounding. it was a silk tweeter (ass opposed to a metal) so it blends together very nice. the radial SD is definitely one of the better coaxial speakers out there

the oval shape over the speaker in a 6.9 will most of the time create bass that is more forced or artificial sounding because the oval can't move a linear as a round speaker.

if the 6x9 still sounds nice to you, then go for it. the 6x9 will normally play deeper bass then a 6 because of the extra cone area and mass.

delerium168 > Thanks...I also found it as a compo set..:

Now I just have to see if there's space for the extra .5".

I can't find any specs on the "Phoenix Gold, ZeroPoint series 4.5" mids from the ZCS component set" My max. mouting depth is 2" and it has so far been the critical point in all compo systems I have taken into consideration.
