I was contemplating selling off/trading my two PG Black ZX500's for a large single amp but wanted some suggestions.......I wish I had the money for a MS1000ta but that aint gonna happen. I have looked at the Oldand new US AMPS offerings and have read and heard good things about Sundown. Does anyone have any thoughts??????

I may just end up keeping what I have but would like someone else's opinions......I will be pushing two DD 3512's.

Thanks.

what do you want for the zx500's?

Sundown is your usual cookie cutter Chinese amp. Makes it's power... so if you want to get loud it's a decent choice.

If you can stand the looks, the Xenon or RSD 1200.1's are beasts as well, though they are on the low end of your power range.

Well I really havent decided that I want to part with them yet..( have matching Black ZX450 as well..reason why I dont know if I really want to sell)
I mainly wanted someone else opinion on that power range.....really was lookin at about 1000 watts to each but may just end up runnin the zx500's.

I am not a SPL freak...more SQL...I know the power will be "cleaner" than most of the newer import stuff available.

Unless I just trip over and fall into a deal for something along the lines of the Old School US Amps 2000x or the Newer still made in USA AX-2000 I will continue to run my beloved PG's........

Sure wish I had the scratch to go with a MS1000

Exile 2400.1? I ran one a while back, and loved it. Tons of power in a small space..

I don't know the cost of a MS1000t , but I'll throw it in, but soooooo $$$$$$$$$$$$ :(

The cost would be in the same neighborhood of the Zapco. The real alure of the Ms1000 is the fact that it is true Old School PG. The same way I feel about my ZX's, the US Amps, and even the older Orion hcca's I had previously.

I'm a fan, so I'd have to go with the 1000 too!!

In the past few years, I've only seen 1 up for sale ever on ebay, which was fairly recent.

The ZX500 was my first amp, and ever since I've used nothing else for amps (other than PG)!! So I completely understand your affection for your ZX's!

The ZX got stolen  a couple years back, and now I'm using the Xenon 200.4. Components up front, 6X9's in the rear, and 2 12" IDQ for sub is all running off this amp! Sensitivity and bass boost knob turned up 1/4 the way for comps and 6X9s, 1/2 for the subs on the other pair of channels. Never fails to blow me away in both power and sound quality!

I guess like you, I'll just have to wait it out before another 2250 or 1000 goes on sale. I just really want to try out one of the MS2250 or of course, the MS1000 someday!!

Many MS1000's have popped up on the bay this PAST year alone....Check out the Auctions section and search Ms1000. I think.....3 of us or maybe 4 or 5 of us picked up MS1000's this year.

Me being one of them...Mine's a TA version.

OH, okay. . . I was sort of wondering how it seemed like everyone had one in that "stash" string!

Any idea what they're running for?

HAHAAHA ive seen a few soundstream reference 1000's on ebay in the last lil while. And they went cheep. 300-400 bucks. good power for the money.
I have a couple of zx500's too, but was under the impression they can put out around the 1000W mark each?.. Am i wrong?

the Ms1000ta's seem to go for about a grand easily....and quite possible +/- 100-200...depending on condition and if it is TA or old version.

I personally have never seen a birth sheet on any zx500's....I have "heard numbers in the low 700's though. Not really sure since i have no hard data in hand. I would certantly be interested to know some though

Whoa. . . well I was digging around some old stuff and found this!!

This is the test data sheet that came with the amp that I bought way back in Sept. 1997 from an authorized PG dealer. I remember buying it for right around 850.00. Went back into the same store a few months later and they slashed the price by half due to the introduction of the TI600.2

Okay, sorry. . .I tried attaching the file to my picture, but it said the extension wasn't allowed.

Anyway, the graph shows a plot of THD + N (%) VS. power (x-axis) on a logarithmic scale. Starts @ 0.1% @1 W and slants down almost linearly to a hair under 0.01% at about 175 Watts. Then the curve spikes dramatically to 1% distortion at just a hair under 200Watts. Test was done @ 4 ohms stereo with both channels driven simultaneously 1KHz, 13.8VDC, and 22KHz Lowpass Filter.

So, according to this test data from PG, it looks like if you ran the amp at 2 ohm stereo you would have somewhere in the neighborhood of 800W RMS with 1% THD!! Quite impressive!! :P

Well shave me bald and call me a sheep. . .

I just looked up the word simultaneously, so that is the power output for both channels driven at the same time

That meaning that running a 2ohm stereo load gives you about 400W RMS @ 1%THD.

which would be 800 watts at 4ohms bridged...very nice.

Makes me want to go out and get another one!!! Thanks for the clarity on that!
