Hey you guys ! ... Autotek amps

Alot of you are not aware of this.. I had more system problems a couple of months ago when completing the new build (which has been nothing short of heavenly as a build...).

It all started with the dying battery syndrome. Which at first turned out to be the fucking cap I bought from SLC. The negative terminal was loose, would move, spark, discharge the cap and then suck the nuts out of the battery to recharge. SLC IS A CUNT !.

Then it was the actual battery, and then again.. LMAO.

So I went to MD for Halloween (just like last year only I didnt have my camera :( ) the large mouth season was fucking amazing though and I did get one pic (cos me mate had his Iphone..).

Anyway, I had the system on full blatt on the way home from there (10 hours) 'cos once you have seen the open nature of WV a couple of times the wonder kinda goes from it.. So I was listening to that set of Electro albums for 10 hours

Got home, went down to work for a free meal and coffee and my amp popped as I pulled it.. I was broke for cash so uncle Cecil (our lord and saviour) offered to fix it free (power stage went out) if I could get it there in 4 days..

So I used my last $34 on sending it 2 day USPS insured and it took 3 weeks to get there  assholes ! it was only when I filed an insurance claim that it magically appeared on Cec's door. Fucking wankers eh?

So anyways, Cec was now not in the position to fix it til later. And I know that was no fault of his own. I did think about buying a stand in (and asked a couple of folks if I could borrow one) but my finances got worse and noone had a crapper for loan..

So I aint had no bass since halloween, it sucks ass being a treble rebel I can tell you, driving around 'tish tish' grrr.

So Cec has had this tragic run of events going on, and I didnt wanna push him for the repair.. Anyway, we talked on friday and today he's gonna be sending me out a Autotek amp (800w apparently).

Are they any good? I dont really give a fuck tbh, ANYTHING that would get my sub moving again would be heavenly, esp with 1200 miles of winter driving to do on jan 2nd and onward..

I just hadnt ever heard of them before so was wondering what kind of experiences you guys might have had with them :)

Cheers !

I looked into them a while back, it seems that a few years ago they were bought up by Maxxsonics and people seem to think they went downhill after that. If it's pre buyout I would assume it would a pretty good amp. From what I understand the older stuff is rock solid and underrated. This of course is just hearsay because I never got around to trying one out. I would have bought one though if I was in the need.

Looks like generic MAXXSONICS equipment, e.g. Hifonics style cookie cutter amps. It should make its rated power and be more than sufficient for a sub.

Brilliant, that's all I really needed to know :)

Thanks

I've got an Autotek MM3000.1 seems fine....haven't had any issues, pushes my Fi BTL 12" Loaded pretty well. And have the gains to half.
Mind you all you need is 2k to really push the btl. But ya this sub wangs! and with this amp, I dont get much voltage drop at all. and a loud volume on some booming notes, I might drop for 14.x to 13.5 maybe 13.... but that's it.

I always loved autoteks the newer stuff I cant really say.

Had a few MX5000s, MX3000's, anything under MX is good, older XS stuff which i still have.

One of my first good amps was actually an autotek MX3000 and SS 640 i think was the model.

Then there is the zed made autoteks small and simply kick ass

Autotek pre-maxxsonics is wonderful gear.

It is a lesser known name like Rodek, but is spawned from the same era and mindset of Linear power, MMATS and early Zapco.

yeah used to have a nice collection of the sx series and they were solid amps.

And like Tristan said the older zed built models rocked.

He will be getting a Mark Anthony 800 watt amp all transistor amp, using PG outputs like the RSD line. I still have the mosfet Autotek but I though better and sent him the MA
neither one are great amps but both are at least twice what his 200ZX was... Hope he has space cause neither of these are small amps. No fans but lots of output transistors and 3 X 20 amp fuses on the endplate, they were 30's when it came into the shop many moons ago....Enjoy Andy, it will be louder than your 200 ZX at 2 ohms mono, in fact run the MA at 8 ohms mono and it will deliver the same or more power then then burnt out PG did.....C

"The Evil Santa Strikes Again

I'll go easy on her Cec..

Go easy, this amp has three times the outputs of you ZX and there the same as a RSD amp, it should do a 8 ohms mono what you had at 2 ohms mono on the ZX.
The only issue is its not a low ohm amp so don't go there, and it will give you what you had as long as you don't get squirrelly and try 1 ohm per channel like you did on the ZX.

The old Autotek amps were the cats meow. I had an Autotek BTS 7600 300x2 watt amp. It was a true monster.

The ZX always ran 2ohm mono. I never once used it in stereo apart from when I had it connected to some audiobahn 6x9s and sent it a sub signal, blowing the skins clean out of the audiobahns

Before that it was on the solobaric @ 2ohm mono and most recent the JBL @ 2ohm mono and it never once flinched.

I guess a 10 hour full volume session didnt do the power stage any good

I mean, I have had that amp nearly 2 years.. I got it in April 06. And its been in use every single day until it failed. And considering I am partially deaf and use it at max volume (well gained at 3/4 volume of course) then it didnt have a bad run, esp considering it ws 12 years old :D

Anyways. What I is gonna do me Cecil is connect that one in 4ohm dual.. So Ill split off the left channel from the sub output on the active and run 2 speaker wires into the coils..

Just as you said :)

Gonna be aggro, I mean it was around the 10 degree mark here yesterday and accessing the woofer isnt easy (cos its horn loaded) but whatever, I only need to do that one more time...

A 2 ohm mono load is equivalent to a 1 ohm stereo load as far as the stress it places on a stereo amplifier.

Andy, you will run any load you want. As I am not there to stop you. but I recommend a higher load then what you had because this amp is larger. I'm giving you this amp to enjoy, not to blow up trying whats possible.

This amp is physically larger and internally larger. It has 6 pairs of outputs. Your old ZX only had 2 output pairs,
So this amp is large enough that you should run high ohms on it to get the same bang for the buck you had with the ZX.

This amp was made overseas, and it lacks the engineering sophistication involved with a PG product, So I say run it at high ohms and don't get squirrelly and use it at low ohms and its should equal what you had.

BUT if you run it at 1 ohm loads,,,, well thats how I came to own this amp, someone else thought they could do that also, and I know for sure this amp will NOT run 1 ohm loads     I get lots of free amps cause everybody thinks they can run anything at 1 ohm.

Plus you said you just needed something to get you by till you sell the car, Well this should get you by and if you sell the car and the amp at the same time well then so be it.

While your driving back to Jersey, try not to drive your car at 200 miles per hour, thats the speed you ran your ZX 200 at while it was working. Low ohms to a amp is like Nascar track speeds is to a race engine.

HO HO HO Merry Christmas Andy, and happy driving and listening. I hope everything settles down for you in the new year, and you stick around a while.... :)
