Need help with a ZX450

Post by tetraag »

I bought this amp back in February and am just getting around to installing it. Unfortunately, there are a few things not working correctly.

First, the fan is not functioning at all.

Second, sound does come from all four channels; however, adjusting the sensitivity knob (front channels) for the first 1/4 turn yields absolutely no result. When it does increase the sound, there is a crackling coming through the speakers in addition to the music. The rear channels of the amp seemed to work fine.

I'm not sure how involved the repair would be, but it is definitely beyond my capability. So, it's either mail it back to PG for the $130 flat rate repair or see if one of you has the time/inclination to take a look. I can probably post some internal shots later for some online diagnosis if that would help.

In the meantime, I pulled it from the system to avoid any further damage. Next time, I will do the right thing and check it all out when I buy it as opposed to eight months later :x :x

Thanks in advance

Dunno about the fan but the front channel problem might be a scratchy pot or switch. Try turning the pots up and down a bunch of times as well as pushing the switches in/out.

I remember when the ZX series first came out they had issues just like what you describe. Fans going dead, pot issues in addition to the windows falling out. After the problems were discovered they corrected it and labled all subsequent units with a ".V2" after the model number ZXxxx.V2. I know the OLD PG would fix this (back then) at no charge.
