Will my fuse block fit in engine bay properly ?

I'm putting it all together VERY slowly but surely. I'm at a crossroads right now deciding if I can use an existing fuseblock or if I should buy a lower profile version. I really want to save my $$ and use what I already have in stock.

I want to mount it on top of the factory fuseblock, a nice flat location. I would drill through the plastic and hold the fuseblock in place with nuts'n bolts. Its all just plastic underneath and is a great location to mount it close to the battery. I would leave enough slack wire so that I can remove the OEM fuse cover for servicing reasons. Here's the problem , its tall. I'm having a hard time telling if its touching the hood or not, I dont' want to damage the hood nor crack the plexi on the fuseblock.

The thing with the hood its deceptively higher at the very edge where it sits on the fender. I slowly closed the hood and it seemed to sit flat. I can fasten the hood closed on the lock and again it "looks" like its sitting flat to me. What I did as a test was put a section of scotch tape upside down on the fuseblock and closed the hood slowly so the air doesn't move it. I did it 2x and both times when I raise the hood its stuck to it, not firmly but its there. This tells me its either barely touching or the air pulls it up but either way its darn close.

Alternate locations: The only other places I can see mounting this block are just forward of the fuse locations or where the arrow points against the shock tower. Either location will require a little custom fabrication of a mount, more of a PITA again.

What is this piece here ? I would have to fasten the bracket to the section on one end if I mount as per the pics above.

I thought about putting the fuse in the same spot in my install, but I kinda worried about putting metal inside the fuse block. Also, with it that close to the hood I was worried about something going wrong and somehow it arching onto the hood. I know it's not likely, but I still worried about it. Just a thought. :wink:

That's too close. Sticking up like an ass pimple. The block cover will get busted off sooner or later. Guaranteed.

What about horizontally mounting using one of the existing screws from that silver bracket on the shock tower? - Your first "arrow" pic. Line one of the block's mounting holes up with the top screw and make a fresh hole for the second block mounting hole. Run your B+ in from the fender side and out around the shock tower and on into the cabin. The block is physically protected, but is still easy to see for a visual fuse check. Be sure to apply clear silicon to the screw threads to prevent rusting. A rubber gasket in between the mount and the car body may help "even out" the mounting surface. I'm sure that shock tower ain't flat...

Take some putty or chewed up gum and put it on the top of the fuseblock and slowly and carefully close the hood on it checking each time if it flattens it out and how much it does.

WOW ! Thats tight, perhaps a inline type housing would fit better. You know like PG made tube shaped and much smaller than that box mount. I got one of those box mounts, iits so big the maker put a digital meter inside it. A inline would ease your pain some for sure, Whew ! you got a toughy there.... :)

Some additional perspective, I'm still not discouting using the shock tower but this is positive news.

Somebody suggested using chalk dust which would adhere to anythign the block touches. What better source of chalk then some feminine products. Behold the majic of SPRING MOMENTS, Cherry Blossum no less

So back to the Bat Cave for a little experimentation. Sprinkle a little pixie dust and we're ready to test this out. This stuff is better than chalk as its so fine I will easily see if anythign touches it.

Close hood all the way down to engage both locks, open hood. Low and behold, not a single chalk mark anywhere. I did a little quick measuring and the spot where the fuse block sits is spot on where that big white sticker is located. Nadda, nothing.

I plan on leaving some slack in the wires so I will (the garage can) easily remove the OEM cover to access the fuses underneath. The cover can be lifted up and then left to the side.
