Phoenix Gold Phorum

Hi all,

I've got an XS6600 with loose RCA front inputs. (The female connectors wiggle too much...it's not that the female to male connection is loose.) I've isolated this as the cause of my intermittent whine from my front speakers. The whine comes and goes as I go over bumps, or sometimes even as I turn sharply. I can press the connections one direction or another to make the whine come and go.

Is this repairable by me? I know very little about car stereos, etc, but I'm willing to take a chance and look around if it'll be worth my effort. Is it easy to check out the guts of the amp...just a few screws? The amp is mounted in an awkward place with lots of wires connected, so I want to make sure it's worth my effort before I pull it out.

What would I find once inside the amp? Is it perhaps just a broken solder joint from the RCA plugs to a circuit board?

Is it better repaired by a car stereo shop, or by PG/Rodin? Or should I just buy a replacement ($274 on ebay)?

Welcome to the Phorum. I don't know much about these amps, but there are a few guys on here that will be able to help you.

I own a spare one of these and unless you are adept at soldering replacement of the RCAs is a task best left for techy's.
The input board floats on a set of posts inside these amps and therefore the entire board is replaceable with a simple swap out of boards.

And vice versa you can remove the board and mail it to someone to replace the RCA's by just unplugging the connector that mates this board to the main amp board.

I have some RCA's but I am not in a position to get them easily. Its actually easier for me to get my spare 6600. You can also call PG/Rodin ask for Phil the service manager and get him to sell you a RCA set to be installed locally by yourself or a local tech person.....C

I live in 95035, you can goggle that to see where I live but you are close enough to mail me your input board and get it back in the same week

Another cheap fix for you is to use the screw tight RCA connections I believe they call the locking RCAs. These have screw threads that when tightened lock the RCA ends on the shell of the plug terminals of the amp, all you need to do is make up the cable ends with these and VIOLA your lose connection are a thing of the past... Think about this as you can do it and save yourself a bunch of trouble and I feel it would solve your problem without all the mailing and such.....C

C, thanks again for the tips...I think I did it. I removed the broken front RCA pair and soldered wires to the circuit board, ran them out thru the RCA hole, then attached RCA males external to the case. Hooked it all up and nothing blew up. Woo hoo!
