M100 project diary.

Post by marko »

my "beat up" m100 arrived today and i'm quite happy with what i've found so far :)

1st off it works 100% despite the seller saying only one channel worked and it sounds lovely with solid bass and plenty of it! maybe the last owner had other issues with his system but there is evidance that a bit of heat was going on inside (check out the rail caps :D ).

so, my shopping list consists of new caps all round and a new heatsink unless anyone has any ideas how i can repair the sink? i've straightened the odd bend out before on these amps and they're made of strong stuff!!

as for sheet metal, i have a brand new LE cover to go on it and the rest is quite sound and responded well to a good t-cut so will leave this alone for now.

Phil at Pg might have a sink but I would doubt it due to age, but who knows maybe a call is in order to rule out my suspicion about availability....

I know I have a sink, but its part of a M-100 i was thinking about restoring... So marko you want to sell your M-100

that would be very complex and expensive to make, i'm wondering wether some heat on the sink would make it pliable to bend back in place and wether it can be welded easy?

...or just find one of those shrouds for the sink and cover it up

i trained in body repair as a youth so shaping and painting the sink is the least of my worries, i just need a way on initially bending them back in place and they are tough as old boots, ever tried straitening one!!

wondered if a small hand held blow torch would be upto the job?

so i decided to repair the heatsink...

1st i straightened the fins as best i could using 2 chisels in a push-pull fasion! then i used some metal epoxy resin stuff just for extra strength where the gouges were follwed by a light skin of regular body filler. then some primer and stopper. it's now looking half decent in full primer with just a bit more stopper to apply to make it nice.

Marko.

Just to let you know mate there is a paint out there by Dupli color (IIRC) called anodizer. And, Im pretty sure they do it in gold.

You need to put down a silver base and then add the anodizer layer (its spray on).

I did my Hyundai logos with the blue and its really convincing :)

It'll be fine. I mean look how much he has had to use compared to what is left of the sink (like 99.9999% alu).

However, I would use a high heat clearcoat. The paint will hold but it will go brittle as I found out with my MPS, and will chip easy if you even so much as fart near it.

here's the finished article, was painted with radiator enamel so likes lots of heat! i found "wicks" own brand to be a damn good match for pg products and even has that slight blue tint that you get with the route66 if you know what i mean? 8)
