"dead" headunit after dead battery

Post by rlockwood »

eclipse cd8454--

fuck.. left my headlights on overnight in this cold ass weather, and had to jump it. car starts up fine, everything else works.. headunit doesnt power up.

check the radio fuse, appears good- noticed the 'security ring' (LED around the left knob) is blinking as though the car is off, even when its on.

I hate to pull it out, knowing its a complete pain in the ass to fit everything back in there.. anyone ever dealt with something similar? I doubt the unit is actually dead..

also, tried the 'reset' switch to no avail as well..

You'll have to pull it out and make sure that the fuse on the HU itself isn't popped. I'd also disconect it totally to reset it.

Maybe has something to do with eclipses security features? Do they still use a security cd?

afaik, all of the features I have come across allow you to turn the unit on first.. Mine isnt setup to use a security cd, rather a memory card + security code. I have both, but without the ability to power it up............

Seems like a dead giveaway that there's a problem with the 12 volt switched circuit to your radio. Check all the fuses including the one on the radio or in the deck harness. Should be easily resolved.

The HU is getting power, that much we know due to the ring lit up around the knob. See if the face will open for you. I have the CD8455 same equiveliant newer year, Memory stick/key code ESN wont open automaticly. The CD ESN does as long as the cd is the choice of ESN.

As for mine, the HU doesn't fully power up until after the ESN has been entered. > IF< there's a cd in, and there usually is, it'll open up, eject the cd and ask for the key cd.

It's worth a try. I agree that it could also be the 12v switch on the HU.
