Sloppy seconds

So my x10d2 is broken in for the most part, and through the breaking in process it has become very sloppy. not tight like a 10, or even lighter 12 should be.
at first i thought it was just me being too critical, but after some more listening it truly is.
option 1 - im thinking a smaller box might help? volume is at 1.3cf PG manual recommends 1.65cf for musical
option 2 - new subs....more then likely back to the ol reliable rsd12.
but since i won a couple on ebay, i might try a pair of zr10d4's for fun....

Isn't it frustrating how difficult it is to find a good balance?
If they play low they get sloppy and can't hit high notes worth a fuck. Also get a weak motor and reduced overall output.
If they play high they get boomy and can't play low notes, and also color the music by adding a "pang".
Really, the RSD is as good of a compromise as I have found between the two. I would love to try an IDMax 10 or IDQ 12, as they probably fit into this category as well.

Try as many different subs as you can get your hands on I say. Eventually, you may find one that is better suited to your taste than the RSD

so you both think that a smaller box wont help?
i might just glue some liter soda bottles in there temporally to simulate a smaller box and see what happens

i dont have room for a dedicated midbass driver!
plus, the problem is with the sub not being tight enough sounding. granted it could belnd a little better, but it is close enough, so the midbass isnt what im worried about
what can you get the peerless for?

Brandon, any 8" overall diameter midranges you can find? The best I can get on partsexpress is Goldwood shit, which is no improvement on my current speakers. If you can get any 8" drivers that are actually 8" total diameter, I will pay you for them.

hmm then look into...any home audio version of
Aurum Cantus, Morel, HiVi, Usher, Vifa, and BG Corp.
Id suggest finding something w/ morel

At this point I would take anything that has an 8" overall diameter. My drivers are about as low end as it gets, but I love the cabinets and stands I have for them. Replacing the drivers and crossover would get me a pretty sweet sounding and looking setup.

hmmm Ill lok but everything is 8.25" at least

Cool, I started a new thread so as not to shit on Brians.
Brian, my vote goes for a set of dual RSD 10's. Should play in the same airspace you have right now, so you may only need to put a new face on your existing box. They probably have the sound you are looking for.

heard lyod's they sounded damn good....
played low and were amzingly tight for such high excursion woofer.

I've been considering running an array of these for awhile:

With any talent I could fit six to eight of them under my parcel shelf without digging into trunk space. Good thing I suck at fabrication or I'd actually go through with it.
