the rarest of discoverys phoenix gold only made one of these

i recently purchased these amps second hand. its 2 phoenix gold mps 2500 amps in a fan shroud made by phoenix gold back in the mid 90s. ok heres what i know. i contacted pg and they say yes they made it but it wasnt a production run. it was a special order for a customer. the amps have changed hands three times and to my knowledge it was in three show cars. the amp was sold and stayed in newengland since original purchase. after looking at the shroud u can see that its the same shroud they used for the ms2250 limited run they made of a sigle amp with a single fan shroud. the difference is they cut two apart and welded it together to make a single frame for 2 mps 2500s. the amps fit so tight that both of them had the end caps removed with the amps model name just to fit in the rack. the only way i new they were mps2500s was because of the size dementions of the amps in the pg archives and amp guts.this thing is solid the thing contains three fans on one end and suck in air on that side and blows hot air out the other. fans power comes dirrectly from one of the plus on the amps. its a massive 3'- 7" long 12 wide and 4" tall.ways at least 30lbs. heres the bad new i can find the original owner to talk to them about it. i would love to know how this thing came about. did he or she get approched by pg for there show car? i dont know how accurate this is but i was told it cost $3000 for this new with the 2 amps. im looking for any info anyone can provide on this beast.any pictures from car shows of it anything will help. finding a factory made one off from pg is amazing i felt like i found a hemi cuda in someones barn. so hit me up fellas let trace this thing down.

With the green coils and black powder coating wouldn't those be MS2250's?? Is the powder coating on the end cap upside down? They are in a custom fan shroud though, of course.

Nice find, I love these PG one-offs.

Those are MS2250s, not MPS2500s. They have the MS2250 transformers, which are very different from the MPS2500 transformers.

Both the MPS2500 and the MS2250 have the exact same heatsink size. The dimensions which can be found online about the MS2250 are including its shroud.

I'm pretty certain it isn't "1" of a kind. (or maybe i see pics pop up every now and then if just that same one)

although it is extreamly rare and kickass!

it doesnt need to be repainted all the marks on the shroud are just glue and what not they will all come off with a quick buff the paints perfect no chips no deep scratches..anyone who can take a picture and show me the actual tape measure of a ms2250 being 17" x 11 1/4". im being told the measures on the pg web site include the shroud and im sure thats wrong cause my shround extends at least 4 inches on each end for the vents. also im looking for someone to prove its not the only one if u seen it in a show car anywhere prove it..its had three owners and all were in show cars im told. its the only one ever

That's an awesome amp but I could swear that I've seen one around town here in the home of PG but I can't PROVE IT. I think they were just special order and built as such.

VW337 might have more information.

a bare ms2250 without shroud is 17" x 11 1/4", why do you need these measurments and what are you trying to prove? several people including myself can varify that those are 100% ms2250 amps in that shroud, what more do you ned to know?

FYI that custom amp will be shorter than 2 shrouded ms2250's....

im not going to put these in anything eventually ill sell it...there are two amps in this shroud not one. and on the pg wed site it says the 2250 is 21" long with out the special order fan shroud. these are 17" long each. when i sell it i would like to know what the hell it is in the rack. if u want to pull out a tape measure and a camera show me a 2250 with a tape next to it and take a picture.

2125 is 17 inches long.

Quick question here. My 2125 has the blue and clear wires liek the OPs amps instead of red and black. Why did PG do that?

The MS amps were handbuilt with the parts that were on hand at the time of production. The colors of power torroid windings, rail capacitors, channel output speaker wire, and heatsinks themselves all vary due to this fact.

no ms2250 was ever 21" long without shroud, if i have to pull mine out and measure it then so be it but listen to what all the hardcore ms fans are saying IT IS NOT AN MS2125 OR MPS2500!!!

as for toroid colour etc, ms2250's did vary from green or red but all ms2125's and mps2500's i've ever seen have had red toroids.

also early ms2125's had red/black 9g speaker cable but rest had zeropoint cable untill the TA versions arrived and these were the "part bin specials"

The shroud is a one off piece from what I can see, essentially that shroud would be two of the MS2250/MS2125 shrouds in one assembly. Nice find I would not say it is the only one in existence but rare indeed.

I have a piece nobody here has ever seen, and I know for a fact it is one of 6 ever made and the other 5 are 100% MIA because they were never labeled and people likely tossed them as a cheap POS. Someday it may get photographed for posterity sake.
