caveat emptor- bad experiance....

Post by marko »

had a bad experiance on ebay and thought i'd share it as warning to anybody buying "as-is" stuff etc..

was a bad experiance for the whole 2 months it took to arrive, it's a soundstream continuum described as blown and repairable so i paid $171 + shipping to the UK from the states as i always fancied a continuum. i got the run around for 2 months until i started a dispute then a few days later it arrived and this is what i found.....

note- i have not done anything to this amp apart from take the lid off, all the fets are missing apart from 3, most of the bolts that hold the board/fets down are missing, a pwm is missing, a daughter board is missing and that's just what i've found upto press....

Whatever you do don't close that dispute, just add to it, once you close a dispute your considered happy and you get no further changes...Good luck my friend, keep me in the loop. I have a local friend that may help some, he was employee number 8 at SoundStream......C

Wow! Is that even repairable? Looks like the traces are melted off the board. That is a blatant ripoff! If you don't get some form of restitution I can't say anyone ever would.

I think you can still fix it, but it will be a lot of work.

Well, the "Handcrafted in the U.S.A." part is definitely correct now. Ugly.

it's cost as much as a challenge, for a start it needs 50 devices (18 power supply fets and 32 outputs!!) this amp has been raided for parts over the years and god knows what else it needs....

Someone's been raiding the trashbin somewhere.

Good thing PG smashes all the returns with a large hammer, I can't imagine what would turn up with all the tweaks in this town.

Field destruct? Nice idea, but obviously worth the 30 bucks to get the unit back and under the influence of the hammer.

Put a 1000S in the 10.0 case. Aside from the caps on the backside of the board, it should be a drop in.

so while i'm waiting for the board to arrive i thought i'd spend some time getting the sink polished, lots of hard work later and i'm quite happy with the results 8)

bottom plate will need replating though, the plating is pealing on the sides
