Do I need a linedriver?

Hi,

my HU is a Pioneer DEH-P80MP (6v) and I'm wondering if I need a linedriver in my setup...The HU has rear/front/sub out but I'm not gonna put any rearspeakers in the car.

I have a M44 for the front, a M100 for the sub.

I have an Alpine 7944 with 4v preout and it clips my M100 at 29/33 with gains on zero.

So I would say it's not needed. I am however more than willing to be corrected if I'm wrong!!

"it clips my M100 at 29/33" What does that mean? :?

Nope - Nil LD required.

Paul means his HU maximum volume is 33 and he clips when he sets it to 29 of 33. He should reduce his HU setting and adjust the amp gains up slightly to achieve more balance between devices, meaning each device has adjustment room in either direction vice one or more of the components set to either extreme setting.

M44 I/P Sensitivity engineered for 200mv-2V

M100 I/P Sensitivity engineered for the same
M100 Manual

When this series of amps was designed, 2V was huge. Not so these days. Always review the manuals for ALL devices before engineering a system.

That's right, thanks for making it a little clearer HH

edit - just to be factually correct, that should have been 29 out of 35.

Just to be fair, 29 out of 35 is probably where the head unit starts to clip its own output as well.

I had it setup using a scope - the headunit itself wasn't clipping even on full whack using a 1k test tone.

The 7944 has a 4v non clipping output.
