who's running the RSD65CS comps actively?

i came here a few months back looking around to see if i could find any results or tips on running this set active. like where to cross, how much power to run.

well after having no luck looking i just bit the bullet and went for it. had the mids running off my Kicker ZX550.2 that was before just running the whole set passively. i hooked the tweeters up to the rear/high channels on my Pioneer 880PRS and ran them off there. sounded really good.

then decided i wanted to get the tweeters off of the HU and give them more power/headroom. so i purchased a new amp for them. i got a really good deal on a couple of DD (Digital Designs) amps. i got the S4 and the C2a. the S4 for the comps, and the C2a for my sub. they sound amazing with the sh*t load of power that amp can make. 200 per mid and 100 per tweeter.

so anyway, on to the point. after countless hours of listening and tuning i seem to be set with using the mids from 80hz with a 12db slope up to 2.5k with a 24db slope. i have the tweeters playing from 4k and up with a 24db slope. also used t/a and my L/R EQ to get good imaging and all that. overall i think the set sounds absolutely amazing the way i have it setup.

well, i made this thread to see what other peoples results were and see what points and slopes they are using. just being curious. if anybody else has any experience with this set run active please share.

if there is already a thread like this, and i didn't search hard enough let me know. i'm sure somebody on this forum has some kind of experience with these active though.

Haven't you noticed any issues with the 2.5k-4k range?

nope, not at all. i keep getting asked this question all the time. but crossovers are not brick walls. both speakers are still playing into each others range. think of it as an extra EQ band. under laps are quite common in active setups.

it also could be that maybe my processor isn't 100% correct. maybe 2.5k isn't actually electronically -3db, the same with 4k. you also have to figure in each drivers response and the car itself. but if i cross them both over at the same point or even close to the same point i get way to much in that area. so basically i'm using my crossovers as an extra PEQ band. for me in my car it works, i am not missing anything in that region at all, far from it.

When I finally do my install at the end of May, I'll be running them actively off of a Cadence Daytona DCA4100 and Coustic XM6... so we'll see ;)

nope, don't have one..... yet. but i know for a fact that the under lap doesn't mean i am missing certain material. i also saw a rta graph from a guy using the same processor with an under lap even bigger than mine and it rta'd really flat in that area.

I don't know about the passive crossover but I have my AX204 crossing over before the M44 at 80Hz for the front stage and it sounds great so I know that's a good point for the mids to start from. The mids produce really good midbass :D

I'm sure I could check the manual but I suspect the mid/tweeter xover point is similar to yours as well.

Good job.
