In most cases the smaller the box the more low end you cut off and the more peaky the response tends to be, I would not purposely put it in too small an enclosure unless you have no other option.
Is the speaker you are using an RSd or RSdC?

Rsdc. so I take it poly fill won't help. I've maxed out all the space. I don't know how they make boxes that have 1 cubic foot of space to fit in that small of an area. I have a TA like the one pictured and I can't even get one that is half a cubis foot.

Where is the box going, in the hatch area I know but is it going into the pit at the rear or one of the sides?
Are you using MDF or fiberglass?
Try running an bridging tube of some sort to an area you can get more volume in. Basically build two boxes and connect them with a reasonable size tube.

I'll try that. It is going in the side pocket of the trunck area. I built it out of 3/4 inch mfd. Used contractors glue with and ass load of brad nails.

If you are using the side panel area, go to the local scrap yard and buy replacement panel. Cut the panel where you are installing the enclosure, bam, more area. That panel is seriously over done and there is a lot of room to use behind it, saving you the need for the tube.
