ZX500 repair costs and value

Hey guys, my friend has a ZX500 that he bought back in 95 or 96. It started smoking one day pretty bad, and hasn't been used since. It still powers on and "works", but not like it should.

Do you guys know what it would cost to have PG refurb it? Will they even do it? And what do you think this amp is worth as it sits, damaged?

I'm considering buying it and having it repaired, but I'm not sure it's worth it?

My buddy claims he paid something like $800 for it when it was new. Does that sound right??

Thanks guys

PG/Rodin has a flat rate of repair of $130.00 unless that smoke was circuit board I am sure this price is in stone for you. To my knowledge case parts other then windows are not to be had.

Smoke was probably a bad cap venting itself if the amp still works somewhat I would say thats what failed off hand without pic's...

Is it worth it ? Man thats completely up to you and your financial infrastructure, and weather or not Old School amp have any value to you.

I find it very hard to pay any of my bills off of that repair rate that PG/Rodin extends, but I live in Cali the land of great expense and $4.00 a gallon gasoline with a refinery 26 miles away....

In other words PG/Rodin has very inexpensive repair rates in hope of keeping you brand loyal, just like all other amp builders of any good name

Hope this helps you out some..... :)

As for the $800 price he paid back then, that sounds dead on. The ZX amps were a pinch salty, but worth every grain of it. Me personally, If I had the $$, I'd get it.
