I found a good deal on a car stereo but it is from Japan. It came from an imported car. Will this work for our radio here in Canada? I seem to remember I heard it didn't but wanted to clarify. If not...is there a way to make it work???
Thanks.

CDs are CDs are CDs. There is no region coding like DVDs so CDs bought in Japan are technically no different than CDs bought here.
So I'd says sure, it should work fine assuming your car and the stereo are otherwise electrically compatible.

I thought that the FM radio part was different between here and there. They use a different part of the radio frequency than we do or something.
I could be talking crazy talk though.......

The radio freqs are different there, so you might have an issue w/that.

Ya the radio frequency was what I was thinking. Not sure if there is a frequency switch on the unit or not.

This is what I was looking at picking up. And no, $80 isn't a typo.

Addzest AM Stereo/FM Diversity expand tuner T-878....i think is what you need to get the rest of the fm stations....and he's got it.
Thats a great price for everything...get it....

By the way I could be wrong about the expand tuner....not sure why he put that there tho...would imagine that is to get the rest of the fm stations....but either way...still a decent price.
You could always ask...and he states OBO....too....so give him an offer like 50 bux or 60? hehe...you never know.

On past clarion HUs you can switch the freq it'll pick up. It's in the owners manual on how to do it. Not sure if that one would as well.

I know that US head units dont work in the UK as far as the radio goes..
And Im pretty sure the japs are the same as us.
Infact me mate fatty has that skyline and some crazy nissan MPV (I want one !) Ill ask him if they have working radios.. If they do youll need to look into another way (converter or summat).

japan units have some crazy radio frequency... but with a fm converter which i believe cost less than 10 USD in egay, US radio frequency are available or tunable.

the tuners work by adding to the frequency range on the fm. for example, you can get a 12 step unit, so their 76.9 would be the US 88.9. but the units will not let you get all of the US frequencies because of their frequency range and the step in the converter. rough inexact description is you have to decide if you want the lower to mid, lower mid to upper mid, or mid to upper frequencies.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm still deciding if I'm going to get this or not. Obviously most (if not all) of it will just end up sitting in the basement with the rest of my stuff anyways. I love the old school stuff but I'm trying to decide if I should get a newer head unit. It's sad but I'm still using my old Clarion DRX8175.
