ohm at amp is 1.9. sub is in a 1.75cft ported box bridged on the rear channels of my ZX475Ti...aprox. 250 rms power.
when i push the cone inward i dont feel any rubbing spots from the voice coils
ant ideas????????????????????

is it consistantly making the sound in that frequency zone regardless of what song is playing? that frequency area is pretty much the one that comes through the loudest in most setups. maybe the amp is starting to malfunction somehow and cause clipping at that db level. or i think maybe a jacked up rca terminal could do it...but i think that would be all acroos the spectrum...hope someone smarter than me chimes in for ya...good luck....oh yeah, love the new avatar..my mom had a monkey that did that shit

yeah, it's strange that it does it only in that htz range...it is interesting that it scratches right in the zone that is at the peak db of most response curves...prolly just a coincidence...you could rule the amp and rca's out by hookin up a different sub (preferably of equal power handling and load) and seeing if it still does it...if it don't, then you need a new Ti...i dunno...bummer.

Is it port chuffing? What size is your port opening?

I dont think it is........its sounds worse right in frony of the sub.
port diameter is 3" id on the edges are flared.

DUDE!! i was totally gonna mention that, but i forgot!! now that i think about it though, if it was port noise, wouldn't it have been doing it all along (assuming this isnt a new setup)?

Got any air leaks around the sub? Run your hand around it, with the sub pumping, in order to make sure there is no air sneaking out. Feel all the joints in your box as well.

well, if it was port noise, it should have been there from the start i'd think...i guess the only thing i can really think of is to put another sub in there and maybe narrow down the options...if that doesnt change anything, maybe try switching out the amp....sounds like i'm assuming that you got a collection of stereo equipment at your disposal...well, keep us posted.

The speaker wires that go down into the voicecoil from the speaker terminals, on the Ti subs at least, are elevated above the spider. However, the length they cut them to was never all that accurate, so they could actually hit against the cone of the speaker at full swing. All you have to do is bend the L brackets back to lower the wires down a bit, and that solves the issue. I guess they get knocked vertically in shipping or something.
I suppose this is why PG weaves the tinsels into their spiders on all the new subs. I remember this being a major issue with the Ti's, so they probably learned their lesson.

the little leads that are underneath the cone on some models of subs hit the cone when the sub is moving

ooohh...those are the leads from the terminal to the vc, aren't they...why would they only do it around 40hz and why wait till now?

PG also weaves them into the spiders on their speakers which is nice

Yea, but his hands would be free to type away. If you alone can get it in your mouth, why use your hands?
