Cyclone help

Hello everyone, I just bought two cyclones and it appears they need some maintenance. I'm trying to figure out how to disassemble them, so i can clean them.

I followed the disassembly link on betteraudio but I couldn't figure out how to get the vane off the motor or the back housing off the motor. It looks like the housing just comes off after you remove the 4 bolts but mine wouldn't budge and I didn't want to muscle it especially with the fragile vane still attached.

The problems I'm having with the Cyclone is that they sound distorted when i tested them free air, I can hear a lot of mechnical noise from them. If I turn them up enough they sound like freakin dirtbikes or something like that. Also if I move the vanes by hand they are pretty stiff and they don't return to neutral.

Please advise :)

First off welcome to the phorums! Hope you enjoy your stay here! :)

Secondly sounds like you forgot the Small security screws (star i think or hex etc) in the hole at the base of the motor housing.

That should do it. Just watch the cabling.

Hi guys thanks for the welcome. I've been looking for these forever (like most of us I assume), so when they showed up I jumped on em. :)

I can't get those small screws off without stripping them. I'll probably call PG later today to see if they can help. :(

Well I called PG and they do service them so I should be in luck. I talked to their support tech, who was very helpful BTW, and he agreed they need to be looked at.

Most likely the inside of the motor is contaminated by little metal particles, coming from the magnet structure.
I repaired a cyclone myself in the past, dismateling it and cleaning it.
Hard part is the particles stick to the magnet structure and are only removable by using compressed air and even then It's a pain to do.
Best is to have PG do it for you indeed...
Good luck, and welcome here.

Ya....I was thinking about taking one of mine apart to clean it...But havent had the guts to do it....took the 4 larger hex screws off...and then didnt really have the proper tool to take the smaller hexes off....so I pretty much stopped....
But Might revisit that later on.

Hey I just wanted to let everyone know I got my cyclones back from Phoenix Gold. The turn around time was good (2 weeks) and they are working perfectly now. Now that I know how they're supposed to be, I know that they were gummed up bad when I got them. They don't sound like motorcycles anymore :) Anyway I'm happy now, they did a great job on them, they even fixed a broken terminal on one of them! :D
