In my first setup (2 12 Alums subs and 600 + rms a peice) in a sealed 1.20 cf per box I had the Basscube set to the specs that PG says and then adjusted the frequency untill it sounded great! about 31-38 hz.
Now I have put a ported 15'' eternal sub in a 3.23 cf box and the ports tunes frequency is 31.28 hz and I am having so much trouble finding the right frequency. I have set the Cube with both switches in the in position and did everything that both the PG manuals say(regular manual and the Secrets manual) and it seems when I find the frequency that produces the most bass that the subs moves alot and I almost start smelling some heat! and thats not good.
Althou this box is not designed for this woofer it should work moderatley untill I can pic up some MDF. It seems that the sub hit swell around a array of frequencies from say 30 to 60 hz but when I seem t find the best bass the sub starts pounding away and then I can smell it and then have to turn it down and re adjust. Per the secrets manual it states that the "port should do all the work" and the sub should minimaly move but the only time I can adjust it where the sub doesnt move much is with the cube frquency control set all the way down or all the way up and that would be way below and way out of frequency for this particular box
Do yall think that this may be a problem with not having the right box? The box its supposed to be in is simialr to this box but has 2 ports and this box I am using has one , I would think that I could get this sub to run decent at least for the mean time using the cube without fear of blowing my sub , I mean isnt that one of the benefets of the cube? to protect the sub?
Also , When I open the cube to adjust the subsonic filter , i do as per what the Secrets manual says to adjust the pot untill the bass goes away , BUT thats the problem , no matter how slowly I adjust the pot for the subsonic filter the Bass NEVER goes away and seems to put out the same output? IS the subsonic pot broken?
Any help or suggestions
Thanks
Having trouble tuning the Basscube
It's my understanding that the subsonic filter cuts out the notes the we can't hear and helps keep the woofer from topping/bottoming out at high volume and thus saves it's life. But it wouldn't really change the output of the woofer under normal levels.
If I'm wrong, which I might be
, I'm sure someone will chime in....

Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!
The subsonic filter has two modes in the basscube. You can either set it to a specific frequency, or tell it to "track" the frequency dial on the remote. That way it will cut off frequencies below the boosting point, so that the amp doesn't waste power trying to play them.
KH, your box might not be "exactly" at 31Hz. I wouldn't be surprised if it varied as much as 10Hz either way! From the sounds of it, you are boosting your sub below the tuning frequency, causing the woofer to unload the port and get very stressed. Try raising your tuning frequency a bit to see if you can't get it to move less. I would also try setting the basscube to tracking SSF as well.

Thanks for the info
I do have the Subsonic filter on the tracking position and the other switch switched to the "in" position , so I did it by the books. I took your advice and set the frequency before my drive to about half on the Basscube (I would guess 40-45) and it hits well and I have not gotten a chance to pound it to its hardest(I have to wait for the drive home from this job on the interstate)
But it does sound a little better and I didnt smell anything so thats a plus
