Sundown Amps?

Post by ELmx479 »

I know this is a PG forum but what are some honest thoughts on Sundown amp's? I'm using a ti600 to power my sub and I was thinking about getting a class D (more efficient) amp to use and after doing some reseach about the Sundown 1000D it seems like a decent choice. My sub is 800rms so I would like to have alittle more power on it.

Ive nothing but they are good and worth the the money. I could probably name a few amps that you could find cheaper used that could do as well though.

PG makes d amps too :)

i haven't played with any yet, but they seem fairly normal to me. solid, reliable, but i dont think you will be any with it happier then the 600.2.

i would presonally step to a xenon 600.1 before the sundown 1000. jmho

The 1000D is $309 shipped from ssa which isn't too bad. I know the RSD1200 is cheaper but I would need something along the lines of..
Does full power at 1 or 4 ohms, sub is a D2
Very efficient, stock alt
Going under my seat so it can't really be any bigger than 16'' wide but thats only if the connections are on the front (like the ti600) so even smaller than that. The Sundown is pretty small and even smaller is the Alpine PDX1000 but i'm alittle unsure about that amp.

They make a big deal about sundown on ca.com, but they seem to look like any other chinese amp ive seen. Not saying this is bad by any means. They appear to be reliable, and ok for the money. Nothing out of the ordinary though. Their prices are a little high compared to some similar products though.

They are stable into 1 ohms(and lower), very reliable amp.

I know the 3000D is powerful but costly.

Ya the ti600.2 is just an awesome amp. I bought it new back in 01 and its sting going strong. Even ran it at 2 ohms bridged on 2 Xmax 12's for about 3 years.

Is the Xenon a class D? I've never read much about them.

I checked it out. Seems solid. But its 18.25'' wide and thats going to be really hard to fit under my seat.

There is one on Ebay now. I can get 10% off by midnight tonight.

God dont do that.. Mtx amps are horrible imo. They all have alternator whine... So many better options other than any pos mtx amp.

I know I may seem biased, but the Sundown amps are very good. I speak with Jacob on a daily basis and find out all the work he is constantly doing to improve and cater to the customers. Great power and quality per dollar.

They are built in South Korea by Zenon. Very good track record of amplifiers that have come out of there.

I thought about giving them a try, and I would have, if they were priced a little better for what I was looking for..

The price that they actually sell for and their MSRP is much different. Why not email Sundownz@sundownaudio.com and he will point you to a dealer.

I would imagine the 'circuit design' is done in South Korea as well. Circuit design is a loose term as the architecture of those design are stolen. As far as I know Sundown is just a Marketing Company that design the asthetics and specs out the amps for the contract manufacturers to build.

Ive seen some prices floating around.. I see no need to go that way, seeing how affordable somthing like this audioque is.. Im on the market for a well priced 2kw+ amp, and as of right now, I have my eye on it..

Sundown is for the most part a one man company, but it is far from just marketing seeing how little if any actual marketing is done. He gets more sales off of word of mouth and performance of his competition teams. Not to mention the custom hand built SPL drivers he does, or the constant new designs he works on and shows everyone on his forum.
