Amp Tuning

Hey everyone, I just want to know if any of you can tell me how to properly adjust my PG 8:0.1 amp... it is powering two 10" PG Octane - R subs.

The settings are:
Bass 0 - 15
SENS 4 - 2

CONFIG BY LP LP
BY LP BY

Subsonic 20 - 55

I dont know much about any of these settings so any information would be great.

Welcome to the Phorum mang.

I would start by reading this fine piece of literature

You want to leave the bass setting all the way down. The sens knob you want to adjust using the above tutorial

The config you want to set at LP/BY

The subsonic I'm not sure about, I don't know if you need to adjust this unless you are using a ported box. I don't fully understand the subsonic thing myself.

I'm sure some of the other regulars will chime in with their own answers pretty soon.

the subsonic filter is basicly a HP cropssover for super low notes.

it is generaly more important for ported boxes so they don't play blow the tuing freqency and unload.

but they still can serve a purpose for sealed boxes. it just cuts out notes that are generally out of the speakers range. the speakers arent as straided becasue they arent trying to play notes that you probibly coulnt hear anyway.

i would have the Subsonic filter on, right about 28-30

Thanks for the quick reply and the help guys. There is one knob i left out though, it says XOVER FREQ 30 - 300, i have no idea what it does or what it should be set at.

You want that set between 60-80. See where it sounds best to you and blends with your front speakers.

I also have a question. If I set the gain on my ti 600 using a DMM there is very little output with most of the music on my Ipod so I had to turn the gain up to at least 80% to get decent output from the sub. I'm using a LPL to control the level of the amp. Do I need a line driver or what??
The gain on my ti500 is only at 50% for the mids and tweeters for them to get plenty loud and clean.

a line drive would help a lot. the ipod is a very weak signal voltage

does your deck have a attenuation or fading ability for that source?

This is the primary reason I wanted a digital iPod connection when I was looking for an HU. I don't necessarily believe the DAC in the Alpine unit I bought is any better than the iPod DAC (I just don't know) but the fact that I don't have to worry about the puny iPod amplifier or charging it before I go for a ride is very nice. My iPod and CD source levels are very similar, which is nice.

ditto^ my kenwood has both a digital connection through the cd changer input or a usb connection that can be used

I know on my pioneer deck with the ipod I had to turn up the SLA on the auxillary to make it match the output of the CD portion. I think I had it set at three on the Aux channel, and -1 on CD to make the voltages equal while playing a 60hz test tone with both.

I'm using the Alpine Ipod cable and there isn't an adjustment for that. It's fine with some songs but with most songs and even some CD's I have to turn the LPL up the entire way or close to it and have the gain turned up all the way. So at the moment I have the gain up all the way, bass down all the way and have the sub level up on the head unit also. Is it ok to run the amp like this or do I need a line driver for sure? The h/u has a 4 volt pre amp.

is the ipod cable a digital or analog connection?
ie: does it use the headphone jack, or the data jack at the bottom?

The Alpine iPod cable is digital.

Yep, I use the Ipod cable that plugs into the ipod not the head phone jack. THe output isn't bad with some music. Even with most CD's I need to have the gain up all the way if the bass is down all the way on the amp. I guess I need a line driver.
