I know that you guys that have one already know this, but I just got my system up and running and have been tuning and so on. I've got a long way to go, but I can't believe the way this little box works! I can see myself spending alot of time fiddling with those controls.

That's all, just excited about it.

The Cube is awesome the first time and is a valuble tuning tool for bass , I couldnt see me not implementing it in my setups

I'd like to give one a shot but I feel I already have enough bass. I'm wondering how much just the subsonic filter really does.

I think it helps make the bass sound better. I have a loud system too but the cube just clarifys it I guess

I haven't had a chance to play with it much, but from what I can see it does make it sound better because you can boost certain frequencies on different songs.

Yeah I agree.. I just got mine put in and was pleasantly surprised about the difference.... and I was actually concerned it was maybe psycological or something, but I hear others being pleased with theirs so I think yeah I like having the base cube installed.

ONE Quest Though: If I do not have the remote control for it.. how much good does it do for me, and what if any would the settings be by default (i.e. no remote in play)?? anyone knows???... IOW does it actually do any good not having the remote?? I will say this, and I thought it would work, is that I have a USAMPS control thingy and that also accepts a phone cord and I hooked it up and changed the level on it, nothing. Nothing sounded different with me changing anything... another thing is that I took cover off base cube and fooled with some of the settings under there.. and didnt really see/hear any difference in when doing so. So i was curious if the remote really has to be in the mix for stuff like that to work properly??

I thought the cube was cool, until I learned how to use my LPL better. It increases volume across ALL subwoofer frequencies, without any artificial bass boost to it whatsoever.

The cube would be awesome for a ported setup however...

Well I think the way you have it set up it would work well as a subsonic filter without the gain control. Not sure if it works without the remote , I would have to try it .
I have also tried using a Audiobahn gain amp control and it does not work.
The only settings inside the cube is the subsonic filter and the amount of boost it will alow the user to dial in via the remote.

Yes, that's what he is talking about.

Funny , cause for about a month I had my amp set to fullrange thinking that the cube would send it just the lows? I have since switched the low pass on my amp and have had good results.

Yep, the basscube doesn't have a LP, it has a subsonic HP.

And the LPL is basically remote attenuation. That's all it does. It doesn't have anything to do with xover or filters or boost.

I see , I have a Audiobahn remote for my amp but I have did away with it ever since I got my cube , I wonder if I hooked that back up I could get a even biiger boast without blowing my sub because in some cases the bassboast control can be the devil .

It's easy to mess up an LPL setup if you don't watch it. But if you set your gains correctly, they are a great little utility.

However, unless your amp can make more power, the LPL doesn't buy you any more power in any way, shape or form. It just lets you run your amp with gains a bit higher than normal, then attenuate the pre-amp with the LPL for normal listening. When you want to go harder, you turn the LPL up and that in turns gives you the more power... but like I said, your amp has to be capable of the power you are asking of it in that scenario.

It's a really great way of having a powerful sub amp play at more "normal" levels most of the time but then have the ability to run it hard from the dash, without fiddling around with gain controls directly on the amp.

Well your Alpine deck cant change the power of the amp or the gain settings or can it?

One is a physical knob that can be accessed without fiddling in menus and it actuates the pre-amp gain attenuation in your amp, the other modifies the output voltage on the sub-out RCAs on your HU. Not much difference in the end product.

I personally find playing with the Alpine interface while driving to be a pain and the LPL to be simple, but I completely understand that not everyone would agree.

My HU only has one set of RCA outs though so with my limited HU, I can't even use the sub gain control the same way you do, it would affect my whole system volume.

your subwoofer gain changes the output voltage on the deck that the amp receives.

the LPL attenuates the output of the amp.
